Here is another story from Rachel just like yours:
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
The Little Bag
"When I was in the 7th grade, I (like every girl I knew) carried a small bag in my backpack filled with pads and tampons. It was crimson and shiny, and completely stuffed with all sorts of hygiene products in case I or any of my friends needed something. One day at track practice, I was doing some warm ups when I noticed a commotion on the bleachers. A handful of guys my age were all gathered around looking at something, then they all screamed and ran off. Curious, as many others were, I walked over to the bleachers to see what the fuss was all about. They had somehow gotten into my little bag, freaked out (as immature, 7th grade boys do) tossed the bag in the air and spilled all my pads and tampons all over the bleachers. I was more frustrated than embarrassed, but my cheeks certainly flushed while I picked up my products. This was the first time I had truly experienced people being uncomfortable with feminine hygiene, and after that I tried my hardest to make sure that other girls I knew weren't embarrassed about carrying products or asking others if they have any. Now those guys are some of my closest friends, and I make fun of them for having been so uncomfortable with the topic of female health!"

A great way to feel good about your period is to talk about it. Here is one story about a camp mystery from Ana: "My first period came when I was at camp, a few days before my 12th birthday. I thought I was bleeding internally and would die." ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
We know that periods don’t cause us to loose all our blood, but it helps to know that everyone is confused about their period at some point. Share your story with us by using the hashtag to connect with other and hear their stories!

One section of our website is Myth Busting! Here is one myth: Period Blood is gross and smells bad.
TRUTH: Period blood is no grosser or less hygienic than “normal” blood. And while each va**na does have a certain smell, your period blood does not. When mixed with the naturally occurring bacteria in your body, your period might make your va**na smell not exactly fresh, but you’re probably the only one who can tell. Think about it: have you ever been able to smell when someone was on their period?

Hello there! We are the Flow. We are here to help you talk about periods and provide learning tools and guides to inspire action in your own lives. We are here to help you take control and break the cycle of silence through conversation.

Hi there! We’re a group of undergraduates at the University of Montana who are passionate about periods. Our website aims to empower young menstruators to take control of their periods through education, connection, and social change. Menstrual health varies person-to-person and can be overwhelming to navigate. This site covers educational topics from anatomy to period products and how to use them. You can also find conversation starters and period misconceptions. The site and podcast include personal stories that offer different period experiences. By talking openly about periods, and telling young people it’s okay for them to talk about it, too, this website will help change the way we think about periods.
