Lecture Description:
Snake envenomation is a critical medical emergency requiring swift, evidence-based intervention to improve outcomes and reduce the risk of complications in veterinary patients. Kristin Lake, B.Sc., C.V.T., has developed a comprehensive protocol that integrates current best practices in snakebite management with the advanced capabilities of VenomVet/VenomVetPlus Antivenom. This protocol is designed to guide veterinary professionals through the assessment, treatment, and continuous monitoring of patients undergoing antivenom therapy, ensuring precision, safety, and optimal care throughout the envenomation response process. Through a structured and practical approach, this protocol supports clinical decision-making while streamlining the use of VenomVet/VenomVetPlus technology in real-time treatment settings.
Learning Objectives:
* Knowledge of the medical math behind an antivenom infusion.
* How to distinguish snakebites and dry bites with a blood smear analysis.
* Why the rattlesnake vaccine is not recommended by the AVMA or National Snakebite Support.
