With a diet as popular as the paleo diet, it’s easy to wonder what all the fuss is about. Why are thousands upon thousands of people rushing to join this new paleo lifestyle? Is it really all it’s cracked up to be? The paleo diet has gained a huge amount of popularity over the years and it’s almost certainly one of the go-to diets when people talk about weight loss and health. So, what’s it all about?
The paleo diet is essentially a diet that focuses on single ingredient foods. It’s all about fresh produce. Things like grass-fed meats, fish, poultry, fresh vegetables etc. The idea is to eat like we would have done in caveman times. It’s all about reducing our intake of processed and sugary foods and simplifying what we put in our bodies.
The paleo diet also promotes healthy fats – like the keto diet – so things like olive oil and grass-fed butter are still something you can eat. This is because fat doesn’t make you fat. It’s sugar that’s the real offender. The paleo diet leans into that fact and is all about ensuring your diet is made up of fresh produce – preferably organic.
The restrictions on the paleo diet tend to be what put people off starting it – or sticking to it. You will need to cut out things like grains, processed foods and sugar. This will reduce what you eat significantly and will mean you’ll need to make a lot of meals from scratch. What’s available in the supermarkets will now be strictly off limits – you can’t eat ready meals, pizza, cookies etc. Your normal diet will need a drastic overhaul.
