As we begin the National Medical Association Annual Colloquium, physicians face many many challenges. Federal cuts to Medicaid, physician workforce shortages, and physician reimbursements, to name a few. Now, we’re facing additional challenges as potentially life-threatening treatments for measles are promoted to our patients and communities. I’m proud to be a part of a group of physicians ready to serve, educate, and advocate. There is so much work yet to do…..

NATIONAL BLACK WOMEN PHYSICIANS DAY – February 8th, 2024

The National Medical Association celebrates National Black Women Physicians’ Day!

Saturday, February 8th marks the 4th annual National Women Physicians Day to recognize the strides and embrace the legacy made by generations of black women doctors in medicine. February 8th is the birthday of Dr. Rebecca Lee Crumpler, who in 1864 became the first African-American woman physician to become a Doctor of Medicine in the United States.

As National Women Physicians Day celebrates all women physicians, Black Women Physicians Day allows us to recognize our own unique history and give homage to the black women physicians who were trailblazers who forged the path for our women physician members. We are grateful to the many black women physicians who have contributed significantly to our esteemed organization and to the field of medicine.

As we celebrate our NMA women members, we want YOU to celebrate you! On Saturday let us make our presence known and let us take over social media. Share your stories or highlight a recent accomplishment. Post a video or a photo that shows you as a . And in true sisterhood tag another black woman physician and give them a special shout-out from the NMA! Engage with us on all platforms and use the hashtags to connect with black women physicians across the country. In the NMA every day is Black Women Physicians’ Day.

The NMA Region IV Conference Countdown continues...
1️⃣4️⃣ Days until the Region IV NMA 2024 Conference.

Malcolm X said, “The most disrespected person in America is the Black woman. The most unprotected person in America is the Black woman. The most neglected person in America is the Black woman." Dr. Claudine Gay, Dr. Antoinette Candia-Bailey, Dr. Nikita Mortimer, Dr. Susan Moore, Serena Williams, Keshia Knight Pulliam, Dr. Chaniece Wallace, Beyoncé Knowles, and Kira Johnson. Each of these accomplished Black women are trailblazers, and leaders in their chosen fields yet their death, near death, or complicated medical experiences may have been partially or entirely due to ignored patient and family advocacy, dismissed concerns, and delayed intervention with dire consequences.

During the NMA Region IV 2024 annual meeting on Friday May 17th, the Black Women and Maternal Health Town Hall starting at 6pm and Day One of the Region IV Scientific Program will focus on Black women. We'll focus on their role in the foundation of the Black family and community and their lived experiences with health disparities rooted in the systemic racism that has “muted” their voices. It's time to hear what they have to say.

Register today by clicking the link below. Space is limited.

Join us for an open discussion on the challenges facing black mothers' health and well-being in our community.
