"What the world needs right now is love...sweet love."-Hal David
I work with a lot of trauma survivors who are being extra impacted by world events that is further exasperating their symptoms, feeling uncertain of safety in places they had just worked through to begin trusting...to feel safe at/in.
And if you are anything like me, a working Mom who has a family to tend to and people I want to keep showing up for, it feels too scary to be visible and even pointless to do a social media post that will remain in the echo chamber or trolled upon like slush underneath a person's tire in a never ending winter.
So what now?
How do we show up?
How do we live authentically?
How do we take a stand?
How do we live in the paradox of going about everyday lives and chores. We all have to keep working, feeding our families, finding those moments of joy.
How do we do that though AND acknowledge that what is going on in the world is not ok, and that we stand for love, change, hope and grace?
You pick one thing.
One act of kindness.
You keep showing up.
And remember every movement, needs ALL types of people.
The frontline advocates for change need food and groccery workers, jobs, nurses, doctors to tend wounds, artists to speak where they can't, they need yoga, people to call and write to our congress, a gym to build strength in a healthy way, they need mothers and fathers, brothers and sisters who they can go to for support, friends to laugh with, materials to make signs with, teachers who teach critical thinking and provide a space of learning and safety for their sweet kids, businesses that support the cause of love and light, counselors to process trauma with.
We need mother nature to remind us all that seasons change, and even in the dead cold of winter, the earth is working beneath the surface to provide us with the harvest of springs benefits.
What the world needs now is kindness, a smile, a conversation with commonality, we all are just trying our best aren't we?
Don't we all want the same things?
For safety, love, community and joy for our families and friends?
And maybe just start there, being in the present moment of joy and compassion towards ourselves and one on one connections.
Offering you peace, love and and safety today.
I hope you find that one thing, that spark of joy, hope and cause for you to invest it.
With gratitude,
Kate
