Today’s Manco meeting carried a celebratory spirit, as it welcomed two distinguished figures from the dermatology community whose presence added prestige to the occasion.

Dr. Pam Mahlangu, a registrar at the Steve Biko Academic Hospital Dermatology Unit, was recognised for receiving top honors at the Annual Dermatology Congress, held at Inkosi Albert Luthuli International Convention Centre in Durban. The congress, themed Lathitha: Diversity in Dermatology, celebrated excellence and inclusion within the field. The award recognises Dr. Mahlangu's research titled"Pre and Post Excision Analysis of Inflammatory Markers and Immune Checkpoint Molecules in Basal Cell Carcinoma (BCC)

Dr. Mahlangu was accompanied by Professor Mahlatse Kgokolo, Head of the Clinical Unit and President of the College of Dermatologists of South Africa, who attended in support of her achievement. Their presence was warmly received, and the meeting reflected a shared sense of pride in Dr Mahlangu’s accomplishment.

Applause and admiration filled the room as colleagues celebrated this milestone, a moment that not only honored individual excellence but also highlighted the strength and promise of South African dermatology

The team also discussed potential improvements, offering practical solutions to enhance the facility’s operations and overall efficiency.

The second stop of the morning Walkabout was the Chiller Plant, where Chief Mechanical Artisan Wickus Detleefs highlighted several pressing operational challenges. Management acknowledged the severity of the issues and stressed the need for swift and decisive action to restore the plant’s functionality and ensure continued service delivery.

In the pursuit of excellence in healthcare, the foundation begins not with medicine, but with a clean and healing environment. At Steve Biko Academic Hospital (SBAH), the Cleaning Department continues to play a vital role in ensuring that patients our primary stakeholders receive care in a space that promotes recovery and dignity.

During his recent visit to SBAH, the Honourable President Matamela Cyril Ramaphosa acknowledged the critical importance of cleanliness in healthcare delivery, commending the hospital’s commitment to maintaining high standards.

From the Management Desk, Assistant Director of Administration and Logistics, Mr.Pule Majoro offered words of encouragement: “Keep up the good work and be the change you want to see. Cleanliness is next to godliness.”

SBAH CEO, Dr. Lehlohonolo Majake-Mogoba echoed this sentiment with heartfelt appreciation for the department’s dedication: “Wisdom doesn’t only come through formal education it’s born through teamwork and wholehearted effort. Only the best results emerge from that. Without a clean environment, patient recovery is compromised. That’s why I refer to you as my Doctors of Environmental Maintenance.
