🌍 Happy World Occupational Therapy Day! 🌟
This year’s theme — Occupational Therapy in Action — celebrates the everyday activities that bring meaning, purpose, and joy to our lives.

As Occupational Therapists, we support people to live fully — whether that means:
✨ Getting dressed independently
✨ Returning to work after injury
✨ Enjoying hobbies and community life
✨ Moving with confidence and reducing pain
✨ Supporting mental wellbeing and structure to the day

OT is action — movement, connection, self-care, hope.
From home adaptations to community participation, we help people do what matters most to them.

In our work, we also recognise the power of mind–body practices like Tai Chi and meditation, which promote:
🧘‍♀️ Balance and strength
🌿 Calm breathing and emotional regulation
🤝 Social connection and confidence
💚 Living well at every age

Let’s celebrate the big and small actions that keep us living life to its fullest.
Occupational Therapy makes everyday independence possible. 💪

🌟 ADHD Awareness Month 2025: The Many Faces of ADHD 🌟

This October, we’re celebrating The Many Faces of ADHD — recognising the creativity, focus, and resilience that come with neurodivergent minds, as well as the daily challenges many face.

At Shali Wellbeing, we’ve seen how Tai Chi and meditation can make a real difference — helping calm busy minds, improve focus, ease stress, and support better sleep 🌿

We recently completed a 5-week Meditation Course for Beginners at the Alcester Community Shed, funded by Alcester Town Council, where participants with ADHD shared feeling calmer, more focused, and more rested.

It’s inspiring to see Alcester becoming a Neurodivergent-Friendly Town, with local shops showing their support in windows around the community 💛

🌸 World Menopause Day – 18th October 2025 🌸

There was a time I honestly thought I was losing my mind. The brain fog, anxiety, and sleepless nights of menopause can make you feel completely off balance.

Saturday is World Menopause Day, and this year’s theme — Lifestyle Medicine in Menopausal Health — really speaks to us at Shali Wellbeing. Our hormones shift dramatically during this stage, affecting key brain chemicals that influence mood, focus, and sleep. No wonder so many of us feel anxious or foggy-headed!

The good news? Mindfulness and gentle movement can make a real difference. For me, meditation has been a lifeline — helping me find calm, clarity, and a little more patience and compassion with myself.

At Shali Wellbeing, my co-founder Alison shares that same balance through Tai Chi — a beautiful form of moving meditation that restores peace and focus through breath and flow.

💫 You’re not losing your mind — your body is recalibrating.
💫 You deserve calm and clarity.
💫 Small daily practices can change everything.

If you’d like to experience meditation or Tai Chi for yourself, reach out to us at Shali Wellbeing. You can join one of our community classes — or we can even come into your workplace to deliver a wellbeing workshop.

Let’s make space for calm, clarity, and connection — together. 🌸

World Mental Health Day 2025 - 10 October 2025 🌍

This year’s theme is “Access to Services – Mental Health in Catastrophes and Emergencies.” It reminds us that mental health support is not a luxury — it’s a necessity, especially in times of crisis.

At Shali Wellbeing, this message is at the heart of why we began. We saw how many individuals, families, and community groups were struggling to access affordable, meaningful wellbeing services. We wanted to change that.

Through meditation, Tai Chi, and community-based programmes, we make mental, emotional, and physical wellbeing more accessible to everyone — including carers, neurodivergent people, and those living with long-term health conditions.

On this World Mental Health Day, we stand with the call for greater access to mental health services everywhere. And we recommit to our vision: a community where caring for your mind and body is not a privilege, but a right. 💚

👉 Join us in this mission: take a moment today to prioritise your wellbeing. Whether by setting a boundary, pausing for a mindful breath, or joining a Shali Wellbeing session, every small step strengthens your health and our community.

It's sad to move indoors, but looking at this weather I think we've made the right decision! There will still be an outdoor session on Thursdays at 9.30 at the station if it's not raining for those that want to continue to enjoy exercising in nature.

🌍✨ Today is International Day of Older Persons ✨🌍

A reminder to celebrate the wisdom, resilience, and contributions of older people in our communities.

As an Occupational Therapist and Tai Chi instructor, I see every day how meaningful activity, gentle movement, and mindful practices can:
✅ Support independence
✅ Improve balance and confidence
✅ Reduce stress and anxiety
✅ Enhance wellbeing and connection

OT, Tai Chi, and meditation all share a common goal – helping people live well, with dignity and joy, at every stage of life. 💙

Let’s take today to honour older people and the importance of supporting their health and wellbeing. 🌿

Listening, Resting & Recharging

When the hectic school term ends, I find myself slowing down—listening to my body, resting my mind, and enjoying a quieter pace. Hence being a lot quieter on social media.

Summer has been full of highlights: touring Italy, festivals, my niece’s wedding, BBQs in the garden, and celebrating my sister’s 50th (albiet we couldn't celebrate in person/in Spain).

There were lows too—my daughter’s car was written off after a deer ran into it (thankfully she’s safe, though sadly the deer wasn’t). And this week, my son moves to Scotland with his girlfriend to start new jobs—I feel proud, excited, and a little emotional too.

Through it all, meditation and rest have been my anchors, leaving me renewed for September.

Ali and I also worked hard on Shali’s first big grant application to Stratford Town Trust—a milestone made possible thanks to the encouragement and support of many.

I’m also excited to share that we’ll be running a 5-week Meditation for Beginners programme, funded by Alcester Town Council, starting mid September with limited spaces.

✨ If you’ve been curious about meditation, now’s the perfect time to begin—message us to find out more!

Today is World Humanitarian Day 💙 – a reminder of the power of compassion, care, and connection.

Tai Chi and meditation may seem small, personal practices… but they ripple outwards. A calmer mind, a steadier body, and a kinder heart help us show up for others in more humane, patient, and supportive ways.

🕊️ Gentle movements, peaceful breaths, stronger communities.

Finding Balance in More Ways Than One – My Tai Chi Journey in Henley-in-Arden & Alcester
If you’d told me a year ago that I’d be teaching five Tai Chi classes a week, indoors and out, to a mix of wonderful people — and making lifelong friends in the process — I might have laughed in disbelief.
When I qualified as a Tai Chi instructor, my plan was simple: teach in a clinical setting as part of a falls prevention programme (I'm an occupational therapist). But life had other ideas. This April, I stepped into community classes in Henley-in-Arden and Alcester… and I haven’t looked back.
Some of my favourite moments happen at our outdoor Henley classes, held at the train station. We flow through movements to the soundtrack of birdsong, with the occasional train rumbling past — a surprisingly calming background beat. And the weather? Well, in five months we’ve only had one rainy class. Not bad for the British climate!
What I love most is watching people change — not just in skill, but in confidence. I’ve seen balance improve, posture straighten, and smiles grow wider as the weeks go by. The benefits of Tai Chi are both physical and mental: it’s gentle on the joints, improves coordination, reduces stress, and can be adapted for everyone — whether standing or seated. No floor work, no pressure, just movement and connection.
If you’ve never tried Tai Chi before, I’d love for you to join us. You’ll be met with warmth, laughter, and a space where you can move at your own pace. Who knows — you might even find your balance in more ways than one.
