The medals are in! 🎖️

Four members of the Lakeridge Health community have received the prestigious King Charles III Coronation Medal—including three outstanding physicians and one truly remarkable resident.

Dr. Anierhe Joan Abohweyere, Dr. Shannon Fernando, and Dr. Randy Wax were recognized for their leadership in children’s health, critical care, and health system innovation.

They’re joined by 104-year-old Lakeridge Gardens resident Louise Johnson—believed to be the last living WWII “Bomb Girl” in Canada. Nominated by former MP of Ajax Mark Holland, Louise was honoured for a lifetime of service and dedication to her community, including decades of civic advocacy and efforts to preserve local history in Ajax.

“When the invitation for this most honourable award came, I was astounded. I graciously accepted and happily display it for others to see and enjoy,” she says.

Thanks to some hard work and generous community support, the garden at the Whitby Hospital is ready to be enjoyed all summer long! 🌼🌿

Staff from the Healthy Aging unit spent the day prepping and planting—moving fresh soil, filling planters, and getting their hands dirty to refresh the outdoor space. In the afternoon, patients joined in to help plant flowers and enjoy the sunshine!

A huge thank you to O’Flaherty’s Landscaping and Garden Centre, Kingsway Greenhouse, and Canadian Tire for donating soil, flowers, and supplies to help make this possible!
