"Changing the Stigma"- 2020 Trailer
Covid-19 has made our lives more difficult, especially when it comes to housing and getting resources to the people who need it most.
Check it out. Pulled the video for those of you who hate reading articles. January 29th, the homeless census we be taking place all day.
Getting started looking for Gerry. 77 year old with Alzheimer's
After all was said and done we pulled 2 people out from this location. There were a few people further down in the wash that were stuck, but they were fine. They were just waiting for the water to go down.
It doesn't rain here often, when it does, there are people and animals who are in danger. Many of them know to get out of the tunnels, but there are some that don't know better.
Update on Don! Our Marine vet is hurting, TV is set, just need to get some help with getting around to buy some stuff. Oh! Idk if I can ask this but I'm doing it anyways... He needs cannabis, it's the only thing that helps his PTSD and his fits. I need a ride to take him to some places, and I got him to open up to having a meet and greet with a service dog! But the lady who was gonna bring the dog isn't reaching out... DOES ANYONE HAVE LEADS ON DOGS?
Family of Eight! We got them off the street, but need a little help.
UPDATE: The rent has been paid for another week! Anthony starts his orientation for his security job on Wednesday! Just gotta keep them covered till that first check!
UPDATE: We have the money for a storage and a budget truck. Can anyone help tomorrow with the move before 5 pm? We need someone to get the truck, someone to get the storage, and people to help load the truck. I wont be able to rent the truck, pick them up, move to the storage, and pay for it in the hour and a half that is available to do it all. Still need help paying the rent for the next two weeks!
This is a family that RCH has been working with for a few weeks. There have been a lot of struggles and ups and downs. Many of the organizations here in nevada simply couldn't accomidate a family of this size. Others tried to get Anthony to leave his family, or vice versa with Mikita. They wouldn't leave eachothers side. They have been doing everything they can all while Anthony heals. It has been one thing after the other. Please help in any way you can! They are at a weekly right now. Their last day is the 27th, and also that is the last day that they will be able to get their belongings from their apartment before the landlord throws it all away! I know we can do something to help this beautiful family!
Homeless Marine Corps Vet pt.2
A quick update video from Tuesday night. It was pretty chilly and windy. I hadn't been able to get up there to see the guys, plus was still waiting to hear back about help for Don. Was hitting walls when it came to Ken and Dream Catcher. Without IDs or any serious drug addiction problem... Their only real option is the shelters.
I have yet to hear one person tell me something positive about the shelters. I want to be clear, I have not heard anything negative about the places themselves (other than you can't drink and you have a curfew lol) but every woman I have spoken to about it does not feel safe. Some claimed to have been attacked while in there, and one even said she had been raped. The men and women alike have seem to have all been robbed of their IDs and phones.
This is a problem I have noticed... This city needs a way to get some form of ID for these people. Perhaps a mobile finger print analysis truck with photography set up to make at least a 6 month temporary ID that would allow them to get jobs and apply for services that require ID. Most of them are going to be on record for finger prints since they tend to get picked up for violations often for shoplifting, drug related crimes, and trespassing.
It's just a thought. There are so many issues facing the homeless community that most people would just take for granted. You can make the change happen, or watch as we do it. Either way, thank you for your time.
Homeless Marine Corps Veteran
It seems fitting that during military appreciation month, and a week prior to memorial day, that we would meet this gentleman. We have learned so much about the plight of so many of our veterans from working with this man. Since then, we have been in contact with the V.A. and close to a dozen other organizations. The help that is available for these men and women is laughable.
First off, it needs to be said that there are so many people who work in these organizations that truly want to help. Some of them are amazing and have given me some hope for the future of our vets and the care they need.
On the other hand, the money that is allocated to these organizations is being used in the wrong way. I heard several stories from veterans in a meeting with N.Y. Mayor Bill de Blasio at Veterans Village 2 that made my blood boil. I can only imagine how veterans and their families (who have been dealing with this for years) feel.
I will say that the N.Y. Mayor and First Lady are very passionate about the situation, and First Lady Chirlane McCray brought up a fantastic proposal on improving the mental health of this country. They need to see the truth, that these groups are accepting massive amounts of money to help vets, and then they move vets from their facilities and leave them on the streets. It's more common than you would think. Many case workers don't seem to understand PTSD and the way it can effect vets. So when they seem agitated (and they are) these workers call security, making the situation immediately worse. They mark these men & women down as having refused services and stop working with them. Most commonly, the men and women are refused disability income even when classified as 100% disabled by the V.A.
I have only been made aware of this situation this last week, and to be quite honest, I understand why we have so many veteran suicides. I can't begin to vocalize how upset I am. We have failed these men and women we claim to honor. We say things like "t
Yesterday’s outreach was everything we want R.C.H. to be about. Thanks to everyone involved. We made a change in someone’s life. The Real Change is still coming.
