It’s so easy for me to get caught up in the “what’s next?” aspect of life…and my practice lately has been to ask myself again and again…”what’s here?”…

“what’s here?” 🤍

When I was walking on the beach tonight, I was thinking about balance and practices that support a sense of equanimity.

My mind kept coming back to this poem…

“Your hand opens and closes, opens and closes. If it were always a fist or always stretched open, you would be paralysed. Your deepest presence is in every small contracting and expanding, the two as beautifully balanced and coordinated as birds’ wings.” -Rumi

The imagery of this poem reminds me of the embodied feeling of my own healing journey…of learning to balance effort and surrender.

Somatic movement, yoga asana, pranayama, meditation, running, and even strength training all require finding a kind of balance between effort and ease.

And so this is my very long way of saying, “balance” will be the theme for our yoga practices this week.
I’d love to have you join me. 🤍⚖️

A few glimmers from this season.✨

Noticing glimmers is a really simple and beautiful self-care practice…and it’s one of my favorite things in this season. ☀️🌸🪻☕️🐰🌱🌿🌊🌦️

Glimmers are the opposite of triggers. They are micro-moments that spark a sense of awe, joy, or peace. And when pause to notice and feel these tiny moments…we bring ease to our nervous system and support our sense well-being. 🤍

I love the shapes and textures of beach things.
It feels like art. The way the water brings out the textures in a log or smooths a rock. And the beautiful way they end up mingled together.
Anyway, this is a long way of saying I’ve been on tech a bit less and enjoying natural things more.

Wherever you are in the world, I hope you had a beautiful weekend and that you’re savoring more nature time too.

Love,
Amy

A little over 14 years ago, I made a commitment to myself — begin to make choices every day to move in the direction of happiness.

And that one commitment to myself has made all the difference.

For me this has included small choices and big life shifts…

Getting back into yoga practice.

Waking up to watch the sunrise.

Moving into an apartment on the lake.

Lucky for me that apartment was also above an Italian restaurant — so I enjoyed amazing food.

Moving my body regularly.

No skipping meals.

Meeting up with friends to go to yoga, for a trail run, beach time, or dinner.

Saying “yes” to that small quiet voice that whispers.

Saying “yes” to that first date with David.

Finishing my doctorate in nursing practice.

Deciding to jump head first into yoga teaching and therapy.

Learning TM meditation.

Switching jobs.

Morning walks.

Beginning a strength training journey.

And the list goes on…

As we shift into Spring, these are the 5 Ayurvedic self-care practices I’m integrating into my morning routine:

1. Tongue scraping - followed by brushing teeth and then a swish of water to rinse.

2. Drinking a glass of room temp water to support digestion.

3. Washing face with cool/warmish water.

4. Rinsing nasal passages with Neti pot - using distilled water + neti salt (great for spring allergies)

5. Practicing self-connection - which varies day to day depending on my schedule and how I’m feeling...but it usually includes things like watching the sunrise, yoga, mudras, breathwork, and meditation.

What self-care practices are you finding supportive as we shift from winter to spring?

Amy

Wind in my hair has always been a favorite feeling for me. 🌬️

And after a week on the ocean (with my sea sickness wrist bands on), I can also say I’m learning to love the feeling of being rocked by the sea. 🌊
