Due to the suspect weather, our Bear Clan Patrol will be cancelled tonight. Two of our Bears will be responsible for checking for needles in that area.

We will be having patrol tonight! We will be departing from - RRC Polytech - Portage Campus, 32-5th Street SE, Portage La Prairie, MB tonight at 6 pm!

Patrols are every Friday! (weather permitting)
Orientation at 5:45 pm
Patrol begins at 6:00 pm

*Must be 18 years of age or older to participate in patrols*

This position meets monthly and supports policies and other initiatives that addresses issues of concern for the Portage la Prairie Bear Clan. This Friday - April 24th - I would like to have any of the Volunteer Leaders that are available to join me at the Den at 6pm. I would like to go over the safety info, and use of radios etc. We'll be able to be out on patrol more regularly, so we need to be sure we address safety. We can also discuss ideas for future patrol times and locations, and other concerns we have. I'll have snacks !! Come if you can.

Red Dress Day is coming up quickly, and we have been invited to participate. It is on May 5th, at Island Park. Volunteers are asked to arrive around 10:00 at the Cultural site at the back of the Park. The walk will start at 11:00 and will be followed by time to visit and lunch at the site. Please join in if you are able.

Update – Burton “Cody” Campbell is now in custody after turning himself in to Winnipeg Police.

Portage la Prairie RCMP searching for male wanted for assaulting female

On September 3, 2025, at approximately 3:45 am, Portage la Prairie RCMP received a dispatch for an assault that had taken place on 11th Street NW.

Officers responded and were met at the door by an injured adult female.

The victim advised officers that a male known to her had broken into the residence, assaulted her, and fled the scene. There were also children in the residence at the time of the assault.

EMS transported the victim to hospital for further treatment.

RCMP have issued a warrant of arrest for 39-year-old Burton “Cody” Campbell from Ebb and Flow First Nation.

Campbell is facing the following charges:

• Breaking and entering with intent
• Assault while choking, suffocating or strangling
• Fail to comply with release order condition x4

Police are continuing their search for Campbell and if anyone has any information they are asked to call 911, or the Portage la Prairie RCMP detachment at 204-857-4445, , Crime Stoppers anonymously at 1-800-222-8477, or secure tip online at www.manitobacrimestoppers.com.

The investigation continues.
