💙 Prevention Tip – Don’t Skip Your Colon Cancer Screening

Colon cancer is one of the most preventable cancers—and early detection saves lives.

General Screening Guidelines:
✅ Average Risk: Start screening at age 45
✅ High Risk: You may need to start earlier if you have:
• A family history of colon cancer or advanced polyps
• Certain genetic conditions (like Lynch syndrome)
• A personal history of inflammatory bowel disease

Screening Options Include:
• Colonoscopy – every 10 years if results are normal
• Cologuard – every 3 years for low-risk patients
• Stool-based tests – yearly
• Flexible sigmoidoscopy or other imaging as advised by your provider

Why It Matters:
Colon cancer often develops without symptoms in the early stages. Screening can detect and remove precancerous polyps before they become cancer.

💡 Tip: If you’re 45 or older—or younger with risk factors—talk to your provider about which screening method is right for you.

🌪️👶 Hurricane Prep for New Moms & Babies 👶🌪️

Hurricane season can feel overwhelming, especially with a new baby. Here are some essentials to keep your little one safe and cared for if storms roll our way:

🍼 Feeding:
• If breastfeeding, store extra milk in the freezer (a full freezer stays cold longer).
• Keep a cooler + ice packs on hand in case of power outage.
• For formula-fed babies, stock pre-mixed, ready-to-feed bottles (no need for water if supplies are limited).

🧷 Diapering:
• Pack extra diapers, wipes, and diaper cream — more than you think you’ll need.
• Disposable changing pads are helpful when clean surfaces are scarce.

🧸 Comfort & Care:
• Bring extra pacifiers, blankets, and a favorite toy to soothe during stressful times.
• Keep hand sanitizer and baby-safe soap in your go bag.

💊 Health & Safety:
• Pack infant medications, thermometer, and first aid essentials.
• Make a copy of your baby’s health records in a waterproof bag.

💡 Pro Tip: Keep a small “Go Bag” ready for baby at all times with 3–5 days of essentials.

At Hancock Women’s Center, we’re here to help moms and babies stay safe, prepared, and supported through every season. 💙

🌸 Prevention Tip – Keep Things Happy & Healthy

Let’s talk about keeping your vaginal health in check—because comfort and confidence are always in style. 😉

Do’s for Happy, Healthy Days:
✨ Wear breathable cotton un**es (your BFF in hot weather)
✨ Change out of wet swimsuits & sweaty clothes ASAP
✨ Use gentle, unscented soap on the outside only
✨ Practice safe s*x & stay hydrated

Skip These if You Can:
🚫 Scented sprays, wipes, or douches (they mess with your natural balance)
🚫 Tight, non-breathable underwear all day
🚫 Unnecessary antibiotics

When to Call Us:
If you notice unusual discharge, odor, itching, or irritation—don’t ignore it. We can help you feel better fast.
