I remember feeling overwhelmed when I first began to experience peri-menopausal symptoms at the age of 45. I was distraught and uncomfortable with the changes in my body, my thinking, my personality, and my confidence…basically everything that had defined me for my entire adult life was changing. After over 30 years of joyful, vigorous exercising and health-conscious eating that enabled me to maintain a 35 lb weight loss, I suddenly lacked the energy to enjoy my favorite workouts, and the food choices that had kept me loving my shape were now resulting in a bigger, changed body shape.
As I became aware of these changes, I feared lots of things, both materially and spiritually. Materially, I feared I would gain endless amounts of weight. Spiritually, I feared I was losing my mind. I felt terribly alone and didn’t know where to turn for solutions. Initially, I began writing down my feelings. That was 19 years ago and I have continued writing through the entire process.
Today I LOVE the life I live – including all the changes, and shifted hormones.
Did that newfound self-love come overnight? No.
Did knowing what would work for me come immediately? Of course not.
Like all things worth working for, it was and continues to be a process. But you don’t have to do it alone!
