Authentic Vida - psychotherapy Mindful Therapy, Coaching, Meditation
Licensed Clinical Social Worker As these skills progress, we become more resilient and effective at handling our problems.

I have had the good fortune of working with people who are going after what they want in life. With over 25 years of studying human behavior, psychology, and communication, 15 of which include experience as a psychotherapist & coach, I share what I have learned about maintaining emotional well-being, consistent fulfillment, and determination. Regardless of whether you are following your dreams of being an artist, academic, or entrepreneur, there are times when each of us experience difficulties. Finding support and advisement during challenging times can help maintain momentum and direction. Keys to well-being include intention, attention, flexible perspective taking, and maintaining or developing a compassionate disposition towards yourself. Committing to what gives your life meaning, regularly noticing what is going well in your life, and tolerating unpleasant emotions deepen inner strength and self trust. My goal is to help you live a life you feel good about. Using proven methods from both psychotherapy and mindfulness, we will work together for you to experience greater satisfaction and improved well-being.

Experiencing resentment? This episode explains all about what's happening in the mind and what else you can do.

When emotions can’t be expressed, they don’t go away. The brain holds onto them and keeps replaying the moment, trying to fix what it can’t. That’s how unexpressed anger turns into rumination, and resentment starts to build.

Writing down your thoughts can be good for several reasons

🔹organize what's swimming around in your mind
🔹labeling your thoughts may change your perspective and how you feel
🔹when we put our thoughts and feelings out, in writing or conversation, it can be a release
🔹you may gain deeper understanding about what's important to you

Starting a new chapter in one's life can be an adventure, sometimes it's a new hobby, other times it's cutting back on things that no longer feel good. Using time intentionally, towards what matters, improves the quality of day to day life regardless of the outcome.

It's always going to be up to you to decide if how you are living is okay.

If you want to go for it - the life you desire - it will take effort and persistence.

When we get on this path we face our fears of failure and uncertainty as well as the vulnerability of what pains us.

We also learn what to do next, and if we take the steps necessary to elevate ourselves to the level of our desires, we bring a little magic into our everyday life.

We grow and develop in ways that weren't there before.

If you have a desire for a different lifestyle, not necessarily more money or status, perhaps better health, career, relationships, social skills, or more meaning it's a worthy fulfilling pursuit, it just takes time.

Is there something you have been wanting to do? No reason to let age stop you.

Start and see what happens, if it doesn't work out at least you tried, and if it works observe how you experience inspiration, connection, challenges, flow, joy, and a whole range of emotions that are generally more satisfying than stagnation.

If you'd like support and comradery along the way, consider joining my upcoming workshop "Move Your Life Forward, Let Go of Perfection," starts Monday October 3rd at 1pm, for details contact www.learningwithlizwoods.com

Transitioning to fall is the perfect time to prepare for the end of year and bring attention to improving the quality of your life.

My programs are generally geared towards people who regularly care for others, and at times have trouble following through on goals for themselves.

Introspection and reflection allow us to see our role in situations from different perspectives. Along with figuring out what's most important, it's also a way of slowing down, seeing what's working, and recognizing the importance of your day to day experiences.

Move Your Life Forward, Let Go of Perfection may be for you

▪️ if you are going through a life change, and want to be intentional with how you move forward into the next chapter of your life
▪️ you have been wanting to make a change and are having trouble sorting out how to begin
▪️you started making some changes and want to be in the company of others doing the same

After participating in this workshop you'll have

▪️a clearer sense of what is most important to you now
▪️opportunities to plan specific steps for moving your life forward in the direction of meaning & fulfillment
▪️support and accountability to follow through on the steps you set out for yourself
▪️a greater understanding of the differences between anxiety & worry, procrastination & perfection, and overall wellbeing

Self-reflection combined with action develops inner trust, peace, and confidence.

Every decision involves trade-offs, this can be a tough realization to accept.

For example, taking the day off from work to go to a concert, choosing something fun includes the tradeoff of losing a day's wages or a vacation day.

When we choose to stay up binge watching Netflix, we trade our sleep time and possibly our alertness, focus, & mood for the next day.

When it comes to our values and goals, compare the pain of progress to the pain of stuckness.

Any time we want to grow or change, we'll be breaking the status quo of living on automatic pilot, following habitual routines, our almost mechanical responses to going through the day.

Shifting out of this almost unconscious state inevitably brings the discomfort of effort, the unfamiliar and the unknown. In some cases, for example when pursuing a healthy lifestyle, there may always be some pain associated with the effort it takes to maintain consistent exercise and the loss of super tasty unhealthy foods.

The good news is you get to decide how important the change or growth you want to make is.

Oftentimes strong emotions are the flip side of something we value.

Asking yourself how you'll feel if you're struggling with the same situation in 3 months, 1 year, or 5 years, is a way to get a sense of the possible feelings of regret you may have if nothing changes.

Each person's ability to make choices and manage their life impacts motivation.

Self-determination theory suggests people are motivated to grow and change based on 3 needs - competency, autonomy, and connection.

The desire for growth drives behavior, feeling effective, competent, fuels motivation as does the feeling one is in control of their behavior and has choices, autonomy. Feeling connected, having a sense of belonging, is also an important source of motivation.

The path of taking consistent steps towards what matters most will not be pain free, there will be trade-offs at every turn, feeling in control of our choices and behavior can help us feel more committed, interested, and satisfied with the process. You decide.

If you have been meaning to make some changes in your life, join me this fall when I'll lead a 4-week workshop called "Move Your Life Forward, Let Go of Perfection," for details please contact www.learningwithlizwoods.com

I am super excited to be part of Learning with Liz's Fall Line Up! Beginning this October, in "Move Your Life Forward, Let Go of Perfection" we'll spend time figuring out what's most important to you now, build commitment to taking care of your needs, and rediscover the confidence already inside of you.

Having a clear sense of the areas you want to focus on, your values, and expectations will help you set realistic and achievable goals.

This workshop is for you if there has been something you have been meaning to do, a change you have wanted to make.

Self-awareness and growth are lifelong pursuits, impacting the quality of your life, your relationship to yourself and your loved ones.

Connecting to your inner experience regularly helps with managing uncomfortable emotions, as well as builds confidence and self-trust.

The more we understand ourselves, the easier it is to take care of our own needs and set boundaries around our time for what's most important.

Resilience and wellbeing are enhanced when we take time for what is meaningful and fun, allowing us to be more available for the people who count on us.

"Do what you can, with what you have, where you are." - Theodore Roosevelt

"Compassion is not a relationship between the healer and the wounded. It's a relationship between equals. Only when we know our own darkness well can we be present with the darkness of others. Compassion becomes real when we recognize our shared humanity." - Pema Chodron

I am a New York State licensed Clinical Social Worker with a private practice in White Plains, NY. I have had extensive training in various cognitive behavioral therapies such as CBT, REBT, ACT and STAIR a trauma focused CBT. I utilize coaching techniques from the Co-Active Coaching approach, and mindfulness techniques with significant success.

I have the privilege of working with people in a sacred way; honestly and directly dealing with experiences, thoughts, and emotions. Individuals are capable of immense change and growth. I use effective methods of treatment in a supportive, encouraging and accountable way. Reinventing oneself often leads to excitement and boundless creative energy. Making realistic dreams come true is where I come in. My goal is that individuals who struggle with happiness will find regular contentment; a better way to get through life. From my diverse experiences I have learned that: • How you think matters. Negative self talk can be detrimental and it can be changed. • Self-compassion is the way to happiness. • Life is hard, and at times unfair. Coping skills allow us to persevere and make the best out of life's difficult situations.
