The Flu has arrived, here are effective ways to reduce your risk 👇🏾
1. Wear a mask; especially in crowded spaces. The flu is a respiratory virus and mainly travels through coughs, sneezing and close contact.
2. Wash your hands and avoid touching your face. Don't give the flu an easy path to entering your body.
3. Get vaccinated. This year the flu vaccine is still proving effective. Up to 70% reduced risk of hospitalization for children, 30-40% reduced risk for adults.
4. Talk to your provider about antivirals. Especially if you have a higher risk of harm from the flu. For example, patients with diabetes, cardiovascular disease (high blood pressure, high cholesterol, diabetes).
5. Don't underestimate the flu. Last year the flu hospitalized nearly 600,000 people and we currently have a higher number of cases this time this year than where it was at this time for the last 2 flu seasons. The flu is more than just a "cold," don't let people convince you otherwise, follow the data and use evidence to guide you.
