It's Tuesday morning, and man, is it foggy. I love mornings like this. The neighborhood is so quiet, the birds are chatting, and the air is slughtly chilled. Dad and I will get out of the house today to have breakfast at our favorite taqueria with my uncle.

Today is a good day.

I'm back in Pearland hanging with pops and enjoying our dose of morning sunshine 🌞

I'll be here for the next several months, getting him ready to move in with us. He's needing a little extra attention these days, but doing okay overall.

We just celebrated his 85th birthday this past Sunday! He got his favorite desserts, white cake with white frosting and strawberry ice cream. ❤️

I'll be with him over the next several months as we get him ready to move in with us. He's needing a little extra attention these days, and I'm glad I'm available to be here with him.

We also just celebrated his 85th birthday this past Sunday! He enjoyed his favorites; white cake with white frosting and strawberry ice cream. ❤️

We switched from Butcher Box to recently and so far are really happy with the quality of the meats.

We received a couple lbs of ground pork with this last order, so I thought I'd make this super easy paleo recipe - Eggroll in a Bowl. It turned out delicious! I mean, seriously, any chance I get to cook with sesame oil, I'll take!

I used for a gluten free soy sauce option, and my veggies were a mix of broccoli, carrots, and red cabbag already shredded in a produce bag, making it a super easy recipe to make.
We try to the rainbow when it comes to our veggies, so getting in colors like purple and orange are a must!

Add a soft boiled egg and a sprinkle of black sesame seeds and freshly chopped green onions and VIOLA!

Merry Christmas and happy holidays!

If you're struggling with bloating, one thing you can try is to avoid drinking fluids during meal times. Allow your natural digestive juices to do their job without interruption. You can enjoy a drink before, which may also help with over eating and/or a yummy beverage afterward like green tea or water with ACV, which can actually help promote digestive.

It's worth a try.

Sleep is vital to aging well. Quality and quantity help us to maintain a healthy weight, reduce cortisol, detox, and repair. As we age, we need to be more mindful of our habits if we want to stay strong and healthy.

1. Routine bedtimes, just like how we create these for the little ones, help reduce stress while training your system to get into a regular pattern of a sleep-wake cycle.
2. Studies show that reducing the temperature helps not only maintain sleep through the night but also helps us to fall asleep faster.
3. Bluelight from our cellphones is more intense than what is coming from our tvs. If you like to watch TV in the evening, lower the lights on your house, turn on lamps instead of overhead lights
4. The act of digesting takes energy. We want our digestive system to be mostly resting while we sleep to allow repair to occur in other areas of our body.
5. Wear a sleep mask or place a blanket over your eyes. You may also find it helpful to cover most of your body with your covers. We have photosensitive cells on our skin as well as our eyes.

Navigating Perimenopause 101

Navigating perimenopause (premenopause) on our own can be daunting. The information super highway of the internet and especially social media can leave us feeling confused and overwhelmed. Who do we trust? Where do we start?
While I absolutely love that the conversation on women’s hormones is more in the forefront these days, what this new attention also brings is advertising from companies that may not have our best interests at heart.

Let me help simplify it.

Over the new few weeks, we’ll discuss how are changing hormones can impact our gut microbiome and what this means for your hormones, energy, mood, and weight.

I want you to start pondering this phrase and how it may be impacting you: ‘Evolutionary Mismatch’

The theory that humans evolved certain traits to navigate a much different environment than what we are now exposed to and how these mismatches can lead to disease in modern times.

How far have we become out of sync with nature?

Perhaps, the answer to living a more healthful life doesn’t lie in more research but instead in taking a step back and remembering our roots.

Hello my dears, I hope this post finds you enjoying these long days. I’ve missed you all tremendously and have been wanting to reach out but life had other ideas in mind for me. I had originally planned this time with my dad to help him heal while also taking time for myself to figure out my next venture, but little did I know I would be doing a lot of healing myself.

It all started with the realization that pops was going to need a lot more care than I had originally understood. I literally could not leave him alone for the first couple of months. He needed constant care and was on a strict medicine schedule following his hospital stay (he was admitted for several days my last week of work). Thankfully my husband was able to stay with us the first week and half which was so helpful for my transition but once he left the days began to feel quite long and emotionally heavy. I tried to keep up with posting on IG and FB about the adventures dad and I were having but quickly noticed it left me feeling fatigued both physically and spiritually and I simply didn’t want to do it anymore. So after much thought, I let it go, knowing I would return when I was ready.

Thankfully, I recognized I was going into a transition of the soul and I knew I wanted to be present for it. Being back in my childhood home, having left a job that I deeply identified with and community that I loved, triggered a massive swing of emotional energy and it was hitting hard. The loneliness began creeping in, as you can imagine dad wasn’t really up for chatting, so I started filling my days with projects around the house. I continued cooking healthy meals, pulling w**ds from the overgrown beds, organizing my father’s closets, and removing the toxic cleaning products my dad was using around the house. There was no way I was going to live in a house full of fake fragrance plus I was working on improving dad’s brain health and knew these items had to go!!

As the weeks turned into months, my heart began feeling more settled and I could tell my battery was beginning to hold it’s charge. I was healing. There were less tears. Going through the goodbye emails I received from you all helped my heart immensely during this time.

What I recognize and want to share is that in leaving a work that I so deeply identified with and leaving my community, it hit hard that I had actually grown into someone I didn’t want to be. While I love serving my community and my work, I had made sacrifices in my own health and how I was “showing up” in order to be accepted and to make people happy. I had become the dreaded “people pleaser” which was causing me stress in a way that was slowly chipping away at my energy. Multiply that by 16 years and you can imagine the kind of crash I had. While being away from my work has been hard, it has also been a time to reflect on what it means to me to be my authentic self and I knew I needed to change so I could return in a new way to serves both you and me. When we show up authentically, the energy flows more freely and that’s when the magic happens.

During this time of transition, thankfully dad’s health had also begun to improve! It’s amazing what consistently eating healthy foods and walking nearly daily, can do for one’s body, even at 84 years old. Pops and I built a raised garden bed which is now producing okra, we’ve enjoyed beach time and extra time with my sisters and their families, but mostly we spend time on my dad’s massive yard where I have discovered my love for w**d whacking! I mean, listening to STP while trimming up those grass lines is literally my jam! Who would’ve known? We’ve also taken a couple of road trips with my uncle to Victoria, Tx and Corpus Christi to see family. I know I’ll always look back at this time with gratitude.

As of late, pop has been doing very well and I can see that my time here is coming to an end. While the humidity has done wonders for my skin, my hair is screaming for dryer climates!

I’ve also had the opportunity to begin working on my next project which I will begin to talk about in my upcoming emails. I will be continuing my focus on women’s health and want to educate women on how to thrive in the changes of growing older. There is hope ladies!
