Little Star CPR

My name is Jess and i’ve been working as a children’s nurse for the last 15 years. I’ve looked after sick children in Royal Berkshire Hospital (Reading), Sydney Children’s Hospital (Australia), St George’s Hospital (London) and Frimley Park Hospital (Camberley). I love caring for children of all ages and also have two beautiful children of my own.

When I had my first daughter, Daisy, I found my nursing experience invaluable in helping us manage many different situations that would have maybe made another first-time mum terrified. I was surprised to find out that the NCT classes that many of my friends attended didn’t teach new parents how to provide any first aid training to their newborn baby if needed. I felt like this was something I’d love to provide for first-time mums, to give them the confidence to do for themselves.

More recently I have had the terrifying experience of having to give basic life support to my second daughter, Lola, who developed a severe form of epilepsy at just 3 months old. It’s very hard to prepare yourself for how to handle these situations, but what I’ve learnt both professionally and personally is that doing something is far better than doing nothing. Lola may not be here today if I had not known what to do in an emergency situation.

I want to give all parents and carers the confidence to know what to do in case of an emergency.
