Last night I booked a time for a sauna. I met the most lovely locals who instructed me on the process: stay in the sauna until you can’t breathe and then swim around in the water until you can’t feel your fingers or toes and then go back in the sauna. Do this four or five times over an hour and a half.

But here is the kicker (or so I thought).

You end in the water…

You sauna until you are melting and you go for one last swim and then you towel off, get dressed, and walk home and warm up naturally.

I thought this would be the most painful part of the whole process but it was incredible. By the time I got back to my friend’s home I was buzzing and my body felt amazing.

Also, it was 10:30pm and still beautifully light. I’ve also added other photos of quintessentially Norwegian things 🇳🇴

When you go to Norway I highly recommend a sauna and also a waffle with brown cheese and raspberry jam 😋

Day one in Oslo and I’m in love with the parks, infrastructure, and art. I’m inspired and it is wonderful to be pulled towards the beauty and the vision of an artist and a community when so much of what I am seeing in the world distresses me.

There are terrible things happening in the world and there is beauty too.

These photos are from Vigeland Park in Oslo. The monolith I’ve captured is composed of 121 figures clinging and floating together. The piece is said to be about our longing and striving for spirituality.

I’ve also included some of the statues which depict people of different ages, sexes and sizes, stuck in different and sometimes perplexing poses. Gustav Vigeland wanted his statues to capture all the aspects of a person’s life, both in a literal and in a metaphorical sense.

Vigeland made all the statues naked so that they remain timeless.

In my Shondaland interview I talked about creating time and space for myself and continuing to recognize and release. But it’s not always as easy as it sounds.

While exploring the beauty of Copenhagen, walking the streets, visiting the galleries, talking with people from other parts of the world I’m observing my reactions and patterns. I expect to have emotional reactions to art in galleries but I’ve had visceral reactions to things and places that I wouldn’t expect. Memories brought up, connections felt, values challenged.

That is the gift of travel.

Here are a few photos from locations. If you have any thoughts or questions about any of these places leave a comment and I’m happy to share more information ♥️

But why me? Because Shondaland is celebrating the 10th anniversary of Shonda’s book Year of Yes. And I was invited to share how my life changed dramatically when I started saying yes to prioritizing my health and wellbeing. And while that journey includes a dramatic weight loss it became about understanding where the self abandonment began and learning to make me a priority in my life.

The amazing Sandy Cohen has put together a wonderful article which you can now read on Shondaland. It includes others who have life shifts as a result of choosing to say yes.

I hope you enjoy the articles. It was an immense honour for me to be included and I’m sure you will find inspiration in one of the collection of stories that are posted there.

You can find the url below, link in my bio, or simply google Tatiana and Shondaland.

Body shaming is everywhere, from airbrushed magazines to subtle comments from family, we’re all bombarded with messages that the thinner you are the more beautiful you are and the more personal value you have. While this isn’t true these toxic messages become internalized and can lead to feelings of unworthiness and a distorted body image. I have experienced this, I hear about it from my friends, from women I work with, and sadly – even from my children.
And here is the thing - shame only makes people feel bad about themselves. It is never (yes I said NEVER) a driver of positive change.
But there is something that you can use to counter the toxic messages of body shaming – and that is self-compassion.
Self-compassion is a super power and once you master it you can achieve anything.
In today’s episode of Happyish Ever After I turn to the work of Brené Brown and Kristen Neff for guidance and that is where the path to self-compassion is laid out: self-kindness, common humanity, and mindfulness.
This week I encourage you to practice self-compassion. If you have a setback, show yourself kindness. Remember, you are worthy. 💜💜💜

Did you know that in some surveys up to 91% of women say that they experience body image dissatisfaction? What can we do to change this for ourselves and the next generation?

Have you done anything scary lately? I did... Today I launched my first ever SOLO episode on my podcast Happyish Ever After. The Solo episodes are mini episodes but it was still a huge leap for me to record an episode all by myself... I'm torn behind "go listen" and "don't listen" but really - we're all friends so please listen and I hope you get a lot of value from the episode :) And of course I would love to hear your thoughts!
