Because of their popularity, over that last several years many stores jumped onto the essential oil bandwagon. Guys if you want essential oils, there are many reputable companies with pure, quality oils and regardless of what it says on the package, these are not them. With the rare exception, please do not buy from DG, Walmart, Amazon, etc. Let me know if you need help with good options.

Essential oils and anxiety.

Q: How have essential oils become the cure for anxiety?
A: It is truly not that simple. However several essential oils have been tested and shown to reduce self reported anxiety levels.

The foremost is Neroli, distilled from the blossom of the bitter orange tree. Citrus aurantium var. amara, is generally recognized as the specific for anxiety. (There may be a *reason* brides carry Orange Blossom bouquets.) IF the essential oil is too costly, there is also Neroli Hydrosol, the water based distillate produced along with the steam distilled oils. (My daughter in law swears that her little spritzer of Neroli Hydrosol wards of her panic attacks.)
Another choice is Petitgrain bigarade, distilled from the leaf of the same tree. Make very sure that your Petitgrain is grown and distilled in the Mediterranean area, though. There is a Petitgrain grown in Paraguay that has totally different chemistry and just does not work as effectively.
The oil of the fruit of the Bitter orange is also effective, but since it is an extreme susn sensitizer we are less apt to recommend it.
The familian Lavender may prove helpful, but it is so overused it is, in my experience, less effective.
Something else that may be helpful are oils that keep you grounded in the present, since anxiety is often about the what ifs that aren’t here yet. For that we recommend Vetiver and Angelica Root, both roots, and both excellent at keeping you grounded in the here and now.
We have been known to blend some of the above named oils to produce blends with very promising results. We even have some VA hospitals using one of our blends to help soldiers with PTSD. so… no, the oils arent the CURE for anxiety…but they can provide emotional support to the sufferer.

Let’s talk about essential oil companies and pricing.

Are all of the oils the same price?
Are the prices in line with known reputable companies?
Are the prices too good to be true or are they extremely overpriced?

These are just some of the questions I ask when I am assessing an essential oil company.

I also look to see if they claim to be carrying pure Melissa, Helichrysum, Rose, and Jasmine essential oil and what they are charging for them.

There are several things that need to be noted . . .

Reputable essential oil companies do NOT sell all of their oils at the same price point.

They also can NOT sell pure essential oils like Rose, Melissa, and Helichrysum italicum, nor Rose or Jasmine absolute, for anything close to $10 for a 10 ml bottle. These aromatic materials take massive amounts of plant material to produce due to their low yields, so realistic pricing is more like $100 to $200 USD for a 10 ml bottle. $10 a bottle for any of these is a sure sign of fake or adulterated oils.

Also, please keep in mind that average commercial pricing where pure essential oils are produced and sold in large amounts to thousands of people will be different than Artisan made oils that are produced in much smaller quantities and are usually a few liters at most. They are produced with keeping the oils at the highest quality possible in mind, and most times yield is sacrificed due to this. Artisan producers and sellers usually cannot meet these averages due to production size and quantity levels. As with any small business, it is not uncommon to see higher prices in these cases.
