Yoga with Katy. Bristol, UK

Yoga with Katy. Bristol, UK Scaravelli influenced yoga The style of yoga that I teach is a form of Hatha yoga and is influenced by Vanda Scaravelli.

Vanda worked with both B.K.S Iyenga and Desikachar and taking these influences brought her own unique and truly revolutionary approach to her practice. Vanda’s focus was on our vital core, the spine. By working with gravity we can create freedom in our spine which helps to create a feeling of lightness, allowing for more movement and freedom in our bodies. My approach is to spend time exploring each posture and to work with the body, rather than use force and fight against the body. We work in a more subtle, intuitive and intelligent way, to encourage the release of tension and work towards a more supple body. This practice is for you if you are seeking a more personal, slower approach to practice. If you are looking for a 'work-out' this isn't the place for you! This is the place for you if you:
- feel stuck in your practice and want to release unwanted tension (physical & emotional) which causes discomfort or limits mobility, find a balance between strength and softness, undo holding patterns, and discover more ease, lightness and spaciousness in both body and mind
- want a deeper practice where you gain an understanding and sense of each body part i.e. limbs, pelvis, spine, lungs, diaphragm, and its interconnectedness in order to function and breathe
- wish to gain an understanding of gravity/anti-gravity and how to utilise its full potential
- are looking for a mindful, meditative practice, that focuses attention on bodily sensation and breath, bringing us out of our busy heads and back home to the body.

Can I tell you about the space I hold on Wednesday mornings?

It's a small, intimate group that meet at my home studio - it's a place for those wishing to go a little deeper with their practice.

On Wednesday there were tears. Not because something was wrong, but because they felt safe enough to let go.

That is what this space is for - to show up just as you are. Messy, tender, open. Moving, breathing, feeling, processing, releasing.

A place where healing happens 💚

Happy 50th birthday, beautiful friend 🩷

What a gorgeous weekend it was, celebrating your 50th trip around the sun — and 38 incredible years of friendship.

Sunshine, seafood, cliff-top walks, cake, and the best company.

I look at this first photo of us and see such innocence — neither of us had any idea what life had in store.

Yet here we are, all these years later: still smiling, still loving, still rising, still falling, and still showing up for each other.

That’s the kind of friendship worth holding onto.

Love you, sista. ###

It's defo porridge season.

Here's what my porridge gets loaded with these days now that i'm in medical menopause with HRT off the menu.

Sunflower, pumpkin and flax seed are rich in phytoestrogens that mirror oestrogen and can be a useful alternative to HRT, if you can't take it, or choose not to take it.

All the health benefits without the risk for me.

Happy days 😊

Hello and thank you for being here.

As life has taken a few twists and turns over the past year, I felt it was time to reintroduce myself.

My posts aren’t polished or perfectly planned. They usually arise from inspiration—or from the quiet musings of what it means to be human, female, in menopause, and alive in this messy, beautiful world.

Here I am—hair wild, no make-up, skin salty and sun-kissed, wrinkles on show, fresh from being tossed around by the waves. Not looking my best, perhaps, but feeling my best—deeply alive.

Two years ago, at 47, I had the fright of my life: a breast cancer diagnosis.

In that moment, I faced a choice.

To stay stuck in fear, numbness, and victimhood…
Or to meet my fear, pain, and grief with courage and compassion.

When I stopped fighting, blaming, and searching for answers—and instead began listening—everything shifted.
My illness became a portal for transformation.

I knew I couldn’t go back to who I was before. And though it was painful, I discovered I was strong enough to face my grief. In doing so, I uncovered resilience, inner wisdom, and the capacity to heal.

Grief showed me what truly matters—and what no longer does.
I began letting go of people-pleasing, perfectionism, and the belief that I had to look, feel, or behave a certain way to be accepted.

I’m learning to trust myself again. To know I am not broken. That there is no perfect. Being human is messy—and that’s okay.

I’m saying yes to what feels meaningful, expansive, and inspiring. And no to what doesn’t.
I’m living my life, my way —not the one I was conditioned to live.

Stripping away fear, guilt, and pressure has given me a new sense of safety, freedom, and joy.

Because when we engage with change—when we meet our grief and difficulties with presence—we open a portal to awakening. Our capacity for love, joy, and freedom expands.

It begins with embodied presence. This is the gateway to healing, freedom and love.

It's through my own personal journey and understanding that my new offering was born:

Soggy half term dog walks!

Love this boy 🥰

Always up for doggy adventures. And rarely a moan.

Although the hot chocolate reward at the end might have helped a bit!

If you love being outdoors, and you are living in the UK, you have to embrace all weather.

Our walks are often where we have our best chats. It's where we reconnect as s family and recalibrate.

It's part of who we are and what we do as a family.

I'm ready for summer to return now though! 🤣

What a treat to be on retreat yesterday, and hosted by yoga teacher and friend,, Caroline .expansion.

The day was just the right balance of yoga, space to connect with others, take time for yourself, and enjoy the beautiful natural pool, delicious food and countryside.

Thank you Caroline 🙏❤️

Days like these feel such a luxury, and a gift when they happen. It's easy to arrive home and slip back into the routine all too quickly.

So i'm exploring ways of nurturing ease, and spaciousness daily.

Here's some ways i do this:

- Daily dog walks in nature

- Yoga snacks (10/15 mins daily is good enough

- Stopping for lunch

- Taking the time to prepare and sit down for family meals when possible

- Pausing for a cuppa

- Lying down for 10 mins or so

- Pottering. In the garden if the weathers nice!

How do you create space. I'd love to hear your ideas.

Enjoy the sunshine! 🌞

The Yoga Practice

The style of yoga that I teach is a form of Hatha yoga and is influenced by Vanda Scaravelli. Vanda worked with both B.K.S Iyenga and Desikachar and taking these influences brought her own unique and truly revolutionary approach to her practice. Vanda’s focus was on our vital core, the spine. By working with gravity and the breath we can create freedom in our spine, which helps to create a feeling of lightness, allowing for more movement and freedom in our bodies.

My approach to Yoga is relaxed and playful, and will allow you to explore connections in your body nice and slowly, refining how you move through a variety of Asana postures. Taking it slowly will allow you time to release any unwanted tension and habits in the body that limit your movement, helping you to open and strengthen without straining.

Enjoy finding ways to move in a balanced, easeful way towards each Asana, creating a sense of more space and resilience in both body and mind, and a renewed vitality that will help sustain you both on your mats and in your everyday lives.
