The Student Audit and Research in Surgery group (STARSurg) have just helped launch the Ileus Management International (IMAGINE) project which will be a europe-wide student-led audit taking place early next year. This will involve collecting short term data on patients undergoing elective colonic resection.
We strongly encourage our medical students to become a collaborators on the local project with collaborators getting authorship on a PUBMED-indexed publication and the opportunity to present the findings at local and regional meetings. You do not necessarily need any experience in audits as you will be inducted and will be supervised by junior doctors.
The commitment will be working with another student as a pair to collect data on at least 3 patients per week for 2 weeks. The collection periods will be 3 x 14-day blocks from January 22nd to March 19th 2018.
A summary of the protocol is available here: https://starsurg.org/imagine-project-hub/
If you are able to make the commitment then the best way to get involved if through this link: https://goo.gl/forms/77KwjDtprcH8kzC13
The number of collaborators is limited and so if more people apply than there are places then there will be a competitive application process before December to confirm the teams.

IMAGINE will investigate the incidence of ileus following surgery, whilst ‘closing the loop’ on our previous OAKS project looking at acute kidney...
