Advocacy isn't one-size-fits-all. There are so many ways to be an advocate for kids - and they need it NOW more than EVER.

For whatever reason, the future of our children in the US is under attack from every angle. From funding for their healthcare, equity in their education, and access to lifesaving vaccines - our children's future is being decimated by budget cuts, fearmongering and misinformation.

Our children deserve better. But because they don't vote and they don't pay taxes, congress and our current administration have shown us that children don't matter to them.

Well, you know what - they matter to ME. They matter to tens of thousands of Pediatricians. They matter to millions of parents and grandparents. And I hope they matter to YOU.

This is just a snippet of the speech I gave earlier this month when I was honored to receive the Community Pediatrician of the Year award from the Cincinnati Pediatric Society. It's not just a call to action for fellow Pediatricians - it's a call to action for everyone who cares about kids. WE NEED TO MAKE OUR VOICES HEARD!

Please don't stop advocating because it feels hard or grim or hopeless. The children of our country are counting on us.

Enough is ENOUGH. The ball is in your court

The medical establishment is watching. The public health community is waiting. We won’t forget this moment.

This is the email I sent this morning to Senator Cassidy and I urge all of you to do the same. Feel free to copy these words (written with the help of AI) and change what is applicable to you.

Let’s flood his inbox.

What an honor! Yesterday I was awarded the Outstanding Community Physician Award from the Cincinnati Pediatric Society (the plaque was from them...the tiara is a bonus from one of my partners, Dr. Liz Daniels). This award is given to one pediatrician in the Cincinnati area each year for distinguished contributions to the health and welfare of the children of Greater Cincinnati.

And to make the night even MORE special, my girl KC Kids Doc flew in to surprise me and to present me with the award (along with Dr. Daniels from afar and Dr. Chris Peltier as well)!!

Of course "THE" TikTok was shared along with some other fairly embarrassing posts & photos - but I was truly humbled by everyone's kind words and support.

In my speech I thanked many people, including my patients and their families - but you know who I forgot to thank - ALL OF YOU!! If it weren't for YOU, I wouldn't be here. Thank you for sticking with me, for asking the hard questions and pushing me outside of my comfort zone. My goal has always been to provide evidence-based, relevant and honest content for you and your families...and I hope I've provided you with knowledge as well as a little bit of joy and laughter over the past 7 - 11 years (that's right - I've been doing this on IG since 2018 and on FB since 2014).

I know I haven't been posting a ton of content lately - to be honest, I've been a bit burnt out - but last night gave me a renewed sense of purpose. I can tell you one thing for sure - I'm certainly not going anywhere anytime soon!!

Thank you, again, to the Cincinnati Pediatric Society and to my colleagues at Northeast Cincinnati Pediatric Associates for supporting me on this crazy ride!!

My husband knocked it out of the park this year with the gift I never knew I needed 🤣

My son was 3 years old when I started medical school at the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine in 1999. I was blessed to receive a scholarship that helped to cover half of my tuition (and the rest I paid for with loans). Even with that scholarship, I still finished med school well over $100,000 in debt.

I am honored to give back to the school that provided me with a top notch medical education and to the scholarship fund started by my graduating class in 2003 to honor the woman that got us through those grueling 4 years with a smile, hug, and cookies 🫶. The second photo is at the celebration for the 20th Anniversary of the IvaDean Laird Scholarship Fund (with none other than the queen herself, IvaDean).

If you feel so led, please consider a donation to the IvaDean Laird Scholarship Fund at the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine to help other young aspiring doctors achieve their dreams. Click the link here to donate: https://dayofgiving.uc.edu/giving-day/94553/department/94586

Who knows - maybe your dollars help to educate the student who will one day cure cancer, or care for your ailing parents, or become “TikTok famous” battling antivaxxers one cupid shuffle at a time 😘.

Maybe we can treat people with kindness.

Why does that seem like such a challenging concept these days?

One thing I’m beyond excited about for tomorrow is that hopefully the nasty, hateful political ads will finally stop 🛑

Please VOTE if you are able and remember, we’re all human - regardless of our gender, race, religion, political party, culture, age or citizenship status. Can we please treat ALL humans with kindness.

And as Jane the Virgin likes to say…INHALA EXHALA 😮‍💨

Today marks the 18th year since I saw my very first patient at Northeast Cincinnati Pediatric Associates. It’s hard to put into words how much joy my patients and this practice have brought to my life.

This year feels very different as my “babies” (as I lovingly refer to them) are growing up - getting ready for college and preparing to launch into adulthood. As Pediatricians we have a unique experience of watching our patients grow from drooling infants to spunky toddlers, hilarious grade schoolers and amazing (although sometimes challenging) teenagers. Sometimes we even get to see “grandpatients” as our former patients become parents themselves and return to trust us with their new little ones 🥰.

Thank you so much to every family that has trusted me to care for your child/children for the past 18 years. It’s an honor and privilege to watch your little ones grow and thrive.

To any young career Pediatricians or residents - find a practice that treats you like family, listens and supports your ideas and doesn’t take themselves too seriously. I was blessed to find my forever practice from day 1. I truly value everyone that is part of the NECP family - both past and present.

Here’s to many more years of joy and laughter 🫶

OK, parents - if you have a little one in diapers, then you've almost certainly dealt with diaper rash! This is a diaper cream that I recommend to my patients especially for those diaper rashes that are caused after your little one has diarrhea or sat in a dirty diaper for too long.

Everything is OTC and pretty easy to find at your local pharmacy or grocery. The key is you have to SLATHER it on thick (think about icing a cake).

If your child has a diaper rash that isn't improving after 2-3 days or has severe pain or fever, please call your pediatrician!

If you have a baby, then you've likely dealt with the dreaded diaper rash! As a pediatrician, I see little ones with diaper rash all the time - and this is a...
