“Only boring people get bored.”

😑It’s something I’ve cheekily said to my kids for years — not because it’s entirely true (we all get bored), but because it nudges them toward curiosity and creativity when the boredom blues hit.

🤰Now, at 37 weeks pregnant, my daughter Holly is definitely feeling that pregnancy boredom creeping in 💤 as much as she’s counting down the days to meet her baby girl.
I keep gently reminding her — this is the quiet before the chaos. And sometimes, doing nothing is exactly what we need.

✨ Resting into boredom is a skill — and a gift — especially before becoming a mum. It’s in those still moments that imagination wakes up, ideas are born, and we reconnect with ourselves.

🥳January is almost over, and let’s be honest most of our New Year’s resolutions are nothing more than a distant memory.

🍕Instead of smashing goals, you’re eating pizza, washing it down with wine, and binge-watching yet another Netflix series.

🗓️And that’s ok New Year’s resolutions are practically designed to be broken.

👙We fantasise about how daily gym sessions will transform us into bikini body babes by summer. We dream about all the money we’ll save by quitting smoking or drinking, and we plan exactly how we’ll spend it.

But we focus more on the idea than the doing.

🥗We buy vitamins, fill the fridge with fruit and veg, and even sign up for a gym membership telling ourselves, this is it. This is the year I change.

😰But then the January blues hit. The kids start driving you up the wall, your partner annoys you, and work feels like the same old grind.

🍷Before you know it, there’s a bottle of wine in your Tesco trolley a week into January.

🙄Zero judgment here. I’ve been that person pouring leftover Christmas booze down the sink, feeling virtuous… only to re-buy it two weeks later with tears in my eyes.

But this year, something feels different.
Because This Year, I’m Just Doing It.

🍎Anyone who knows me knows I love my food and a drink. But I’m not counting down the days until I can drink again. I’m just doing it, and I feel really good.

🔮One of the obstacles to overcoming all your fears is that you keep your thoughts focussed on past experience, and you try to predict the future.

🔁You have expectations which often leads to repeating energy patterns, and repeating results. If you always do and think the same, you’ll always experience the same feelings and situations.

🙇‍♀️Changing how you think and your current situation requires that you change your energy around how you think.

💭The problem is not the thoughts you are thinking (we are all constantly thinking a multitude of thoughts daily) … it’s the energy produced by those thoughts that you choose to believe ( even though most thoughts aren’t real or based in any facts).

😭Life fills us with worrisome doubtful thoughts. You hear a sad story about a friend’s friends uncles sister and it occupies your mind and changes your energy in an instant. It’s totally unrelated to you, but now it’s having an effect on your reality and there’s a negative shift in how you feel.

😮‍💨It’s easy to get trapped into that low energy worldly thinking, but you can choose something different.

😵‍💫Do you lie awake at night, your mind spiralling into endless worst-case scenarios?

❓What if the kids get hurt or sick?

What if I can’t pay the mortgage or rent next month?

What if I fail as a mum?

What if something happens to someone I love?

What if that ambulance siren is for someone I know?

And the ‘what-ifs’ just keep going!

😱Those thoughts aren’t always rational, and feel more like nightmares. Even though my own two children are now young adults, I still get those moments of anxiety.

The ‘what-ifs’ and the “... then this will happen...” scenarios used to pull me out of the present and send me spiralling into another dimension. My imagination conjured stories, some outlandish, others painfully believable.

😓I was always on edge, always on guard, especially when my kids were out of sight. And it was utterly exhausting.

😔Because being a mum is a worrying business and we try anything we can to prevent that dreaded mum guilt.

🤷‍♀️If you are anything like me and the majority of other mums I know, you probably even worry when things are going well—wondering why you’re not worrying and what’s about to go wrong.

If that’s you, don’t worry, Brené Brown also shares quite openly about her own experiences with this mum catastrophising, too.

❤️‍🔥It’s not a bad thing to worry, but worrying won’t prevent anything. And the more you worry the more likely you are to become burnt-out and on edge, meaning the more likely things will go wrong.
