Why we coach movement skills, not weight loss:

Weight loss MIGHT benefit you.
Movement skills ALWAYS benefit you.

Weight loss is not a behavior you have complete control over.
Movement is a behavior you can adjust to your needs, always.

And my favorite fact of all? 😍 Weight loss may offer about 15% lower risk of all-cause mortality (lots of variables so it’s hard to be precise with this number), but being consistently physically active in adulthood offers 30-40% lower risk of all-cause mortality. Translation: movement helps you more than double what weight loss might!

Some things to consider before you make movement goals (big or small). 💚 Does this resonate?

If you are facing “starting over” with movement, I’ll like to remind you that you are actually starting again, with more data this time. đŸ‘‰đŸŒ You probably know what doesn’t work for you, and you might already know what feels good and sustainable.

So are you really starting over, or just picking up where you left off (maybe with a bit of an onramp period for safety)? 👀

Whatever you do this year, it doesn’t have to be done by force. You’re allowed to show up AND be gentle. 💚

I often see clients associate gentleness with quitting. This is a classic facet of perfectionism and can sound like:

😕 I can’t show up without forcing myself.
😑 If I can’t get it right, I’m going to quit rather than reassess.
đŸ€• If I struggle, it must not be the right time for this.
đŸ€” What’s the point of doing less than my absolute max effort?

If your options are “full speed ahead no matter the cost” or “quit,” you are eventually going to quit (and probably feel a lot of shame about it).

My friend, choosing to lead with gentleness is often the ONLY thing that will bridge the gap between where you are and where you want to be. đŸ€—

Being with yourself in the messy middle, with enough patience to see it through, will get you farther than the perfect plan and the perfect equipment and the perfect timing. Here’s to this approach in 2026, for all your endeavors.

We just did a reflection on self care in 2025, and here’s a few things from my list.

Before you make big plans for how you’re going to change it all for the better next year, I invite you to reflect on what went well for your self care THIS year. You might have had more positive change than you realized!

We’ll host another round of values-based goal setting soon, so stay tuned!

A reminder as you start to see ads for all the fitness things: your movement experience doesn’t have to look like an influencer’s, a gym bro’s, a competitive athlete’s, or literally anyone else!

We want you to feel supported, move comfortably, and challenge yourself safely. 💚 If you’re planning to restart your movement practice soon, consider the PowerUP experience. We’re size inclusive, trauma informed, HAES aligned, body liberation oriented, LGBTQIA+ inclusive, and we understand neurodiversity.

What I do.

I help people with periods feel amazing in the body they have now.

I also like to lift heavy things and play with handstands.

If you’re into body positivity, no-BS nutrition, practical workout strategies, and all things self care, you’ll want to hang out here.
