Happy Registered Dietitian day! ✨🥑🫶🏼

Becoming a Registered Dietitian in New York takes dedication, education, and a passion for helping people nourish their bodies. Here’s what the path typically looks like:

1️⃣ Earn a bachelor’s (or master’s) degree in nutrition or dietetics from an accredited program
2️⃣ Complete a supervised dietetic internship (at least 1,200 hours of hands-on training)
3️⃣ Pass the national Registered Dietitian (RD) exam
4️⃣ Apply for certification in New York State to practice as a Certified Dietitian-Nutritionist (CDN)
5️⃣ Continue learning with ongoing education to stay up to date in the field

All throughout my life I have been surrounded by friends, colleagues, family who have struggled with their relationship with food as well as themselves

What a lot of people don’t realize is when you are restricting, cutting out food groups, eating to still feel hungry at the end of your meal, your mental health is going to decline ⬇️

Happy Eating Disorder Awareness Month 🩷 As an eating disorder dietitian I work with so many clients that really struggle with what is real & what is their eating disorder talking..
To help yourself fact check the thoughts going on, check out 🥑 truths below ⬇️..
🩷Eating disorders don’t have one look, someone can be considered “overweight” & still be just as sick as someone who is “underweight”
🩷Calories are only here to tell you how much energy the food is providing you, calories give us a very vague idea on how many nutrients your body is getting from food
🩷You don’t actually feel fine
🩷It is not normal to body check in every reflection you see 17 times a day
🩷It is not normal to know how many calories are in every single food that touches your plate without looking them up
🩷Eating disorders will not go away on their own
🩷There isn’t one type of eating disorder that is more intense than another
🩷You don’t need to prove to yourself that you have a worse eating disorder than your coworker

MaryAnn Stockhauser, MS, RD, CDN

Hello! My name is MaryAnn Stockhauser and I am a Registered Dietitian (RD). I have my Master of Science in nutrition and dietetics through the accredited combined Master and Internship program at SUNY Oneonta. Currently, I work as an acute care clinical RD at St. Elizabeth's Medical Center through the Mohawk Valley Health System located in Utica, NY. I'm a nature loving, sweets seeker, who travels to enjoy the most well-known food around. I strongly believe there is power through food and nutrition to directly affect the way you feel and live not only now, but in the years to come. I am here to help guide and educate the everyday person on the impact of the choices they make each and every day. I'm just like you in so many ways, trying to live a healthy life in a world where every week there is a "new" way to do it. So, if you're ready to take this nutrition journey with me, hop on.
