How's your Lumbar Spine? ๐Ÿค”

Here's a great quick video breakdown on Lower crossed syndrome (LCS) is a postural imbalance characterized by an anterior pelvic tilt, increased lumbar lordosis (curvature of the lower back), and muscle tightness and weakness in specific muscle groups.

๐Ÿ”ธ๏ธCauses:

Prolonged sitting, Sedentary lifestyle, Weak abdominal and gluteal muscles, tight hip flexors, and erector spinae muscles.

๐Ÿ”ธ๏ธSymptoms:

Anterior pelvic tilt

Increased lumbar lordosis

Lower back pain

Hip pain

Tightness in the hip flexors, hamstrings, and lower back muscles

Weakness in the abdominal and gluteal muscles

๐Ÿ”ธ๏ธDiagnosis:

Physical examination to assess posture, muscle tone, and range of motion

Functional movement assessment

X-rays may be used to rule out structural abnormalities

๐Ÿ”ธ๏ธTreatment:

Core strengthening exercises (e.g., planks, bird dog, squats)

Hip flexor stretching exercises (e.g., knee-to-chest stretch, pigeon pose)

Gluteal strengthening exercises (e.g., glute bridges, hip thrusts)

Pelvic tilt exercises

Ergonomic modifications (e.g., adjustable desk, standing desk)

๐Ÿ”ธ๏ธPrognosis:

With proper treatment and lifestyle changes, LCS can be effectively managed, and symptoms can improve significantly. However, if left untreated, LCS can lead to chronic pain, postural deformities, and other musculoskeletal problems.

Additional Notes:

LCS is a common condition, particularly among people who spend long periods sitting.

It is important to consult a healthcare professional for an accurate diagnosis and appropriate treatment plan.

Home exercises can be helpful, but it is essential to perform them correctly to avoid further injury.

How's your Protein intake for Fuel, Repair & Growth? This is a conversation I bring up with a lot of my clients and patients as I find the vast majority of them are all well under their daily protein intake. When I speak on this subject they all look shocked and automatically feel as if they'll be over-eating. But that's definitely not the case once you're locked into what your body needs, as well as staying on top of your strength training routine.

Check out the article below (written for the ladies), but men can still benefit from this solid advice as well if you're looking to repair and grow muscle after those workouts. If you have questions regarding your Macros or what you should be taking in for your protein intake, please feel free to comment or send a message.

When it comes to achieving fitness goals, protein plays a pivotal role in muscle repair and growth. For women, understanding how to effectively time protein intake can make a significant difference in

My 78 year old patient jumped off the table with zero sciatic pain and gave me a High Five ๐Ÿ– on the way to the front to schedule his next appointment.

We're still working to repair some soft tissue damage he's been dealing with in his Glutes and Hamstrings. One session at a time, but he's making great progress. I'm happy to see him moving with pep in his step. ๐Ÿšถโ€โ™‚๏ธ

Today's Tool Of Choice: Baseball โšพ๏ธ โฌ…๏ธ

Today, my patient came in hobbling with some extreme sciatic pain after his massage that he had yesterday. Took him through a simple warm-up to get some blood flow in his legs before attempting any stretching. He couldn't even lie down on the table Supine (on his Back face up) with his legs straight without the pain shooting down his right hamstring.

Flipped him over Prone (on his Stomach face down) to palpate his hamstring to feel for any adhesions. Found a trigger point right below his Glute inline with the pathway of his sciatic nerve.

Performed a few different variations of soft tissue mobilization with the baseball as well as some dynamic hamstring stretches. The patient was able to lie back down supine without the sciatic pain and go through assisted stretching. โœ”๏ธ

After our session he took a few walks up & down the hall in amazement that he was actually standing upright and able to walk without the pain. He also stated that he could feel the difference in his right leg compared to his left as that side now felt tighter.

So Friday, we'll be tackling both sides so he can feel balanced walking out of the clinic.
