It’s been almost four (!!!) months since I cut out coffee and caffeinated drinks. However, I still love the routine of having a cold, creamy drink in the summer time. My go to: iced @teeccino (dandelion caramel nut is my favorite) with @drinksupercoffee creamer (fav flavor: sweet cream). You can use code KRISTIE15 to save $$ on super coffee creamers, coffee and more! Do you ever hear the argument between net carb and total carb and wonder who’s right? 🤪Here’s the thing: traditional ketogenic diets for medical purposes should most definitely be counting total carb. The point is to get ketones as high as possible for therapeutic purposes. So why does this become a blanket rule for everyone eating a ketogenic diet? 😆There’s also the argument that if you count net carbs, that you fit a lot more “junk” into your diet. I think that it might be the case for a small percentage of people but it’s not true for everyone. 🧐Everyone is right and everyone is wrong. Both methods are valid but one way doesn’t work for everyone! The truth is, you need to find what works for YOU and your lifestyle and ignore the background noise. If someone is telling you that there is only one right way, they are completely ignoring all the things about you that make you, YOU! I’ve had clients who count net, I’ve had clients who count total. I’ve had clients in ketosis at 30 grams of carbs, I’ve had clients in ketosis at 75 grams of carbs. I have clients who include a bit of real food carbs in their diets (apples, carrots, etc) and still be in ketosis and then I meet the people who are afraid of real food because of a carb count rule they heard from Joe Schmo on IG. 😢 I know it can be confusing but it really is important to see what makes you feel your best and helps make keto sustainable for YOU. Try every method. If you have trouble, work with someone to help you figure it out and please run in the other direction if they’re inflexible in their approach with you. #nourishmygut #fyp #ketodiet #netcarb #totalcarb #lchf #nutritioncoach #ketocoach

Having a deficiency or imbalance in electrolytes can cause symptoms such as headaches, cramps, fatigue, and weakness. It’s pretty common in people just starting keto or a low carb diet but can persist longer than the initial introduction period. Euhydration (aka proper hydration) means having an adequate balance of fluids in your body. The intake (and excretion) of electrolytes helps to maintain this balance. Sodium, potassium, magnesium, chloride, calcium, bicarbonate and phosphate--all of these are charged minerals that help to regulate this fluid balance among other jobs in your body. Some of these other jobs include nerve transmission, muscle contraction, and cellular signaling, just to name a few. So what do I mean when I say don’t pour from an empty cup? Make sure your diet is rich in the above minerals and supplement with electrolytes to fill any gaps. Think of your body like your bank balance. If you keep trying to take out money without putting any in, you’ll end up in the red. Make sure you’re covered!
