In honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month in October, Wellstar was proud to support events across our communities. At the American Cancer Society's Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk in Atlanta, Wellstar served as the survivor tent sponsor, helping celebrate and uplift over 700 survivors. More than 60 Wellstar team members joined forces to support this year’s event. For the 12th year in a row, Wellstar served as the medical crew sponsor for the Georgia Alliance for Breast Cancer GA 2-Day Walk for Breast Cancer. Over 50 Wellstar team members volunteered their time to serve on the medical crew over the two-day event. Wellstar West Georgia Medical Center partnered with Breast Friends For Life - BFFL to host Paint the Town Pink in downtown LaGrange for the 19th year in a row. Dr. Richard Jadick and our urology team just celebrated 100 aquablation procedures at Wellstar West Georgia Medical Center. Aquablation is a minimally invasive surgical procedure using water jets to remove excess prostate tissue without incisions or heat. The robotically guided camera and ultrasound imaging map the prostate for precise, direct high-pressure water jets. When LaGrange Police Officer Jackie Mealer had a heart attack, she knew the symptoms and quickly alerted her colleague to call 911, setting the chain of care in motion. Rapid coordination between Troup County Emergency Medical Services, the Wellstar West Georgia Medical Center Emergency Department team and our cardiologists worked seamlessly together to deliver life-saving care. Officer Mealer’s story is a powerful reminder: every minute matters. The faster 911 is called and help is on the way, the more heart muscle can be saved. For each half-hour of delay from symptom onset to restoring blood flow to the heart muscle, the chance of dying goes up by nearly 8%. Quick recognition, rapid response and seamless teamwork saves heart muscle—and lives. Know the signs, call 911, and be the vital first link in the chain of care. October is Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Month, a time to bring awareness and compassion to families and communities touched by loss. At Wellstar, we support families in remembrance and healing. On October 15 at 3 PM, we invite team members, visitors, community members and patients to join us in the Wellstar West Georgia Medical Center South Tower Lobby for a remembrance ceremony led by our spiritual health team. As part of this observance, the Remembrance Tree will be available for anyone wishing to place a butterfly in memory of a miscarriage, stillbirth or infant loss.

Wellstar’s Small TALK program partnered with Georgia Reads to celebrate the power of language and literacy by gifting every baby born at Wellstar Kennestone and Wellstar West Georgia Medical Centers, as well as NICU and pediatric patients, a copy of The Magician’s Hat by Malcolm Mitchell. Our Mother/Baby, NICU and Wellstar Children's of Georgia pediatric teams joined the fun by dressing as magicians and sharing smiles, reminding families that every conversation, song and story helps spark imagination and strengthen a child’s growing mind.
