When LaGrange Police Officer Jackie Mealer had a heart attack, she knew the symptoms and quickly alerted her colleague to call 911, setting the chain of care in motion. Rapid coordination between Troup County Emergency Medical Services, the Wellstar West Georgia Medical Center Emergency Department team and our cardiologists worked seamlessly together to deliver life-saving care. Officer Mealer’s story is a powerful reminder: every minute matters. The faster 911 is called and help is on the way, the more heart muscle can be saved. For each half-hour of delay from symptom onset to restoring blood flow to the heart muscle, the chance of dying goes up by nearly 8%. Quick recognition, rapid response and seamless teamwork saves heart muscle—and lives. Know the signs, call 911, and be the vital first link in the chain of care. Thank you to all who were involved in the care for Officer Mealer, who was recently recognized at a LaGrange City Council meeting. Learn more about our heart care at http://spr.ly/6183A7iid.
