Hi! I’m Doc Joy. I am a holistic pediatrician with a successful private practice for more than 20 years. But for the past 5 years, I’ve taken the less traveled road in medicine, by teaching parents how to use natural home remedies for common ailments children. I’ve seen how an illness affects not just the child, but the whole family as well. Thus, it pains me to see children ailing, especially when they are admitted in the hospital with all the tubes attached to their veins, nose or even their mouth to help them breathe or eat. A mere touch or even a peek from the door will send some kids to fits of crying or shouting or the worst, trembling from the head down to their toes. To the children, nurses are like monsters who scare them and hurt them whenever they come to check them in their room. The medical technologists or phlebotomists are like vampires who suck blood from their veins. As for us physicians, we are like witches who cast a bad spell on them that they end up with bumps, scratches and aches all over. I also hear stories from the parents on how difficult it is to give medicines to their children. Some would resort to pinching the child’s nose so that the kid would open his mouth and the mother can pour the medicine down the child’s throat. Others would wrap the kid with a blanket and flush the medicine into the child’s mouth. Still others would call an army, i.e., the father, brother or sister who are around to wrestle with the kid so that they can hold him on the bed as they force him to take the medicine. Some kids tell me directly: ‘Doc, please don’t give me any antibiotic or any medicine for that matter.” They say that medicines smell yucky or they leave a bitter taste in the mouth or they also give them a tummy ache.
