Today Azri turned 16yrs old. She is healthy, happy and loving life.
All of this is possible due to her donors mum giving us her daughters heart. Azri got to communicate with her heart family a few months ago which was so special.

Today is Azri’s 7th heart anniversary.
We recently received a beautiful letter from the donor family explaining who the heart was from. A girl with a couple of older siblings.
Azri was just 8 yrs old when she needed this heart. She is currently 15 yrs old and loving life.
Whilst our donor family would be grieving their lost, we are forever grateful for the amazing generosity of saving Azri’s life.

Quite a few complications after biopsy last Wednesday. Biopsy of heart went well. Recovery of biopsy so so easy.
Azri returned to emergency on Monday in horrendous pain at site of biopsy entry - groin.
After much tender loving care of the magical team of Westmead Children Hospital emergency department, she is back on the mend again.
Her muscles are still very swollen, pushing on arteries and veins, this is causing ongoing issues with walking atm.
Great way to get out of school. By the time azri walks to the next classroom, class will of finished.
Thankfully no more biopsy’s for another two years.

A small step of the heart journey was having somewhere where I could live safely when home was 800km away. It’s great to see the Ronald Macdonald house in sydney getting bigger.

This is what 5 years and 4 months heart transplant looks like.
Azri attended her scout state camp on the long weekend. Whilst she didn’t quite tent it all weekend as it was too cold, she was able to do everything else. Campfire and sing offs, lashings and burning down towers. Her journey continues to be that normal kid, with a groovy zipper in her chest and swallowing more medication than most adults each day.
She always has a smile on her and is keen for the next adventure ahead.

Bring a transplant kid sometime is hard. With symptoms of being out of breath just watching Tv, being lightheaded and frequent chest pains, there has been many many visits to medical centres and hospitals.
We are fortunate to have locals doctors and medical centre receptionist help her at a drop of a hat. I don’t know what we would do without these guys.

After many blood test, X-rays. Ct scans and so many other test Azri was released from hospital last Friday after spending a week being their test dummy.

Currently enjoying bed rest at home as she has no strength and is still quite ill.

Some roads along this journey are more difficult than others but this one seems to be bigger than others as everyone tries to work out all the things wrong with her and all the things not wrong with her.

On a positive we know she doesn’t have asthma.

In less than a month Azri’s new heart turns 5! (22.2) It is so hard to believe it has been 5 years. This adventure has taught us so much along the way.
Looking for ideas on how we can celebrate this awesome day?
