Guru Rinpoche and The Beginning of Tibetan Buddhism
Guru Rinpoche brought Vajrayana Buddhism from India to Tibet at the invitation of the then Tibetan dharmic king Tritsong Detsen in the year 814. The king had the aspiration of building a large Buddhist Pure Land near Lhasa, but every night beings Negatives destroyed the elaborate construction during the day. Guru Rinpoche, a renowned and powerful yogi, was called to subdue these negative spirits and forces. In his wisdom, Guru Rinpoche realized that messengers were coming to meet him with offerings and an invitation for him to go to Tibet. So Guru Rinpoche went to the border between Tibet and Nepal to wait for them. After accepting the invitation, he advised the delegation to return to Tibet immediately, as the hosts' journey, by walking, would take much longer than Guru Rinpoche's journey, as he would fly to his destination. Then, on his way to Lhasa, he subjugated and bound many negative beings by oath.
After the consummation of the oath of all local deities, they placed themselves at the disposal of Guru Rinpoche. Thus, Samye's sumptuous palace was built with extraordinary speed, as humans built it during the day and local spirits built it during the night. Later, Guru Rinpoche taught the King and his close entourage, Guru Rinpoche's twenty-five disciples. This is how the spread of the Vajrayana teachings began in Tibet, the great vehicle of the Vajrayana Secret Mantra.
Tibetan Lama Chimed Rigdzin, a Lama from Kathog, will be teaching and guiding a practice of Guru Rinpoche on March 17th, open to all, free of cost. He will also grant Oral Transmission of the text.
