So true, God help me today...

Around this time a few years ago, I was in Ireland, working on the final section of Sparrow. One day I found myself writing about the gaps that open up when we are grieving—the raw spaces where so much is missing, so much is achingly gone, and it can feel impossible to make sense of it or to find a way through the rending.

Ireland was an amazing place to think about those gaps. Within its landscape, solace gathered itself around the brokenness and entered into it—not with answers or explanations but with a deep knowing of how grieving and blessing have a way of finding each other. It was one of those places where I learned that in the inexplicable rending, where our loss can seem unspeakable, we can learn to speak, and that the act of speaking can become a blessing, a bridge, a door.

"Believing the words that were spoken to me as a child created a warped recording in my mind that I have played over and over."

This is something that every survivor struggles with, addressing those negative beliefs planted at such a young age.

Know that they can be released. Those negative thinking patterns can be reworked.

A blessing for you, for Pentecost Sunday. I am remembering a beloved seminary professor, Dr. Bill Mallard, who said that the miracle of Pentecost was not a miracle of speaking; it was a miracle of hearing and understanding. In these days, may we know such a miracle.

BLESSING THAT UNDOES US

Today I'm working on my presentation for August 9, with John Cobb and Friends, on zoom. Needing to stay focused, but taking time for some good food, making healthy apple/oats/chia muffins. Must do some exercises, too. Also did extended time with meditation, using guided meditation with Dawson Church, releasing some more of my loaded up "suffering self." Feeling Thankful!
