🎓 On August 1, the WVU Cancer Institute celebrated the 2025 Summer Undergraduate Research Program Mini-Symposium, highlighting the work of six exceptional students who spent ten weeks conducting hands-on cancer research.

The students presented oral and poster sessions on diverse cancer biology topics, from CAR T cell therapy to breast cancer biomarkers and mutant p53 in lung cancer. Their projects tackled some of today’s most pressing questions in cancer biology. 👏

Thanks to the generous support of our donors, we’re proud to help train the next generation of cancer researchers.

📢 Innovation meets impact in cancer research.

We’re thrilled to announce our partnership with Ryght, a leader in real-time AI healthcare technology for clinical trials. By joining the Ryght Research Network, WVU Cancer Institute will now have access to powerful AI tools that make it easier and faster to bring clinical trials to our patients—especially in rural areas where access can be a challenge.

This partnership means smarter study designs, quicker patient matching, and expanded access to groundbreaking therapies.

💬 “As an institution, we’ve always been committed to assuring our patients get access to innovative studies and life-saving therapies,” said Hannah Hazard-Jenkins, MD, FACS, Executive Chair and Director of the WVU Cancer Institute. “Through this partnership with Ryght AI, we are destined to exactly achieve that.”

☀️ July is Ultraviolet (UV) Awareness Month!

The WVU Cancer Institute’s Department of Cancer Prevention and Control and the Mountains of Hope Cancer Coalition joined the WVU Hospitals Farmer’s Market to share sun safety tips, hand out free sunscreen, and spread awareness about skin cancer prevention.

Melanoma is the fifth most common new cancer in West Virginia — but it’s also one of the most preventable. Protect yourself by:
🧴 Wearing sunscreen regularly
👒 Using protective clothing
🌳 Seeking shade
🚫 Avoiding tanning beds

We appreciate everyone who stopped by to see us and take a step toward protecting their skin! 💙

💇‍♀️ Confidence, comfort, and care. 💛

Since opening in December 2023, the Mary Babb Randolph Cancer Center’s Wellness Boutique has assisted 130 cancer patients in finding the right head coverings – from wigs to wraps – based on their personal comfort and style.

Some have even returned for a second item as they continue their journey.

We're incredibly grateful to the WVU Foundation and our dedicated staff and volunteers for helping us provide this meaningful service to our patients. 💙
