Dr.Mirwais Amiri, the Chairman and Managing Director of Amiri Medical Complex is the promoter of “Amiri Medical Complex” which is a continuation of the Escorts Amiri Diagnostic Heart Centre (EADHC) which was established in 2006 with the aim to serve the deprived Afghans in the field of Cardiology.
Dr.Mirwais Amiri marks out his inception from a renowned family known as "Amiri" belonging to a village in Ghazni province, Afghanistan.
Dr. Amiri is one of the few doctors in Afghanistan who have transmuted themselves into successful entrepreneurs without proffering goodbye to their primary duty of saving lives by inculcating beats in the deprived hearts.
In 1981, because of the turmoil and devastation witnessed on the soil of Afghanistan with the invasion of the Russians, Dr.Amiri shifted to Pakistan with his family. He started his education from the primary level in Pakistan and in the year 2001 graduated from Baqai Medical University, Karachi, Pakistan. He completed his six months residency in orthopedics at the Post Graduate Medical Institute, Lady Reading Hospital, Peshawar. He successfully accomplished his one year residency in cardiology at the Post Graduate Medical Institute, Hayatabad Medical Complex, Peshawar, Pakistan.
Having deep realization and feeling for his deprived Afghans in the country he returned to Afghanistan and in 2004 joined Late Sardar Mohammad Dawood Khan Hospital (LSMDKMH) as a Medical Officer in the internal medicine department. From the year 2005 to 2007 he remained at Escorts Heart Institute and Research Centre (EHIRC), New Delhi, India and successfully completed his fellowship in cardiology. In 2007, he rejoined LSMDKMH and started serving the army personnel and their families in the field of cardiology. In 2008-2009, he was deputed at Kandahar and Helmand Military hospital for one month in order to serve the army officers and others related. In the same year (2008), he successfully completed medical mentorship program at Craig Joint Theater Hospital situated in Bagram, Afghanistan. In 2009, he was selected as instructor in Advance Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), conducted mutually by Combined Security Transition Command Afghanistan (CSTC-A) and National Military Hospital Kabul at LSDMDKMH. In 2010, he was appointed as consultant cardiologist & chief of cardiology department at LSMDKMH.
In 2010, he was among the pioneers who initiated and established the Afghanistan Cardiology Association (ACA) and Afghanistan Echocardiography Association (AEA).Since then he is an active director-cum-member of the foreign relation committee of both associations. In 2011, on his visit to the annual conference of European Society of Cardiology (ESC) at Madrid, Spain, he became member of the ESC. Besides treating patients, he is also working as a mentor for the medical students under training. In 2012, he was selected as the trainee of post graduate residents in the LSMDKM hospital. He has been actively playing his role in the above said capacity by training and teaching the post graduate residents.
In March 2012, Dr. Amiri was honored by the status as “Fellow of the American College of Cardiology (F.A.C.C)” in Chicago, USA. Moreover, he is the only Afghan cardiologist to have this honor and distinction. The office of Chief of Army staff has expressed his satisfaction over his services and has presented him with a letter as a token of appreciation. Two consecutive acknowledgement letters have been given by the then Minister of Public Health (MoPH) to Dr.Amiri in recognition of his services in the field of cardiac health care. The Surgeon General of Afghan National Army (ANA) has presented Dr.Amiri with appreciation letter, acknowledging his devotion and sincerity in his profession and serving the Afghan National Army as a cardiologist. The Afghan Red Crescent (ARC) has also presented Dr.Amiri with an appreciation letter, acknowledging his efforts in the field of cardiology and for rendering his social services for the poor and deprived who cannot afford cardiac diagnosis and treatment.
