ing a condition or behavior as pathological, e.g. Pathologies is synonymous with diseases. The suffix "path" is used to indicate a disease, e.g. Pathology addresses four components of disease:
1. cause/etiology,
2. mechanisms of development (pathogenesis),
3. structural alterations of cells (morphologic changes), and
4. the consequences of changes (clinical manifestations).[1]


Pathology is further separated into divisions,
1. based on either the system being studied (e.g. veterinary pathology and animal disease) or
2. the focus of the examination (e.g. forensic pathology and determining the cause of death).
