Why does my massage feel different? The difference may be from the application and my goal; (which is not to smash through the tissue or show you how sore you / your horse are).
• clients will ask what does the muscle feel like, is it a knot, what muscle is that, are they the tightest/worst/toughest I’ve ever felt?
- what I’m doing, technically is using the mechanoreceptors (nerve endings) in my hands to feel for change in tone, temp, texture. Having prior knowledge of anatomy, to know what is under the skin, and thousands of hours of practical experience trains me what to feel for.
⚡️ where this occurs your body will “draw” me in towards the issue. Where the body isn’t moving well, the tissue around it will hug in to it, protectively. 🫶
My hands then apply a mechanical force to the area (most often gently). This literally speaks to the mechanoreceptors in your/your horses tissue (skin, fascia, muscle, organs). This will change the sensory information to that area. 🫶 My general approach is slow fascial holds or dynamic cupping (with movement, this is very intentional and I will speak more on another time). This increases the hyaluron which is hydrophilic, meaning it will attract more fluid . 💙 More fluid = more movement. More movement = more space. More space = happier joints, organs, muscles. 💙
There is so much healing just waiting to be unleashed in the body and it’s really a shame that our bodies remain such a mystery to many.
