Hear about the life of a third year from Emily Otken!
Third year- the first time you truly feel like you are “practicing medicine.” Clinical rotations give you the opportunity to really step into the role of becoming a physician. Lots of early mornings and late nights, but somehow you make it through. You are there for your patients- observing some of the best moments of their lives as well as the worst. Some days are better than others and you begin to cherish the wins- the patient who said that you made them feel heard or the first time you were allowed to suture in the OR. Between the shifts, you still find time to give back through your interest groups and serve the community around you. You enjoy dancing the night away at Cadaver Ball and watching the fourth years at Match Day- knowing your turn is next. You figure out your specialty and realize that your medical school journey is closer to the end than it is to the beginning. You remember WHY you got into medicine in the first place.
