Hmm insightful

To clarify, I'm not talking about tasks kids can and want to do, and that are developmentally appropriate for them. I'm referring to prematurely forced independence, which was super common a generation ago (and still to a large extent today). For example, making a child clean up their room when they're too little to do it without total overwhelm - this may manifest in adulthood who's "got everything covered" even when it's still, actually, quite overwhelming. Collaborative decision-making that's fluid works much better (just because I could do it yesterday doesn't mean I can today - or maybe today I'm ready when I wasn't yesterday). ✨

Why Isn’t My Child Talking Yet? šŸ¤”
(And What to Do If You’re Worried)

If your child isn’t speaking clearly, not talking at all, engaging in inappropriate behavior regularly or struggling to pay attention, you're not alone.

Many parents quietly wonder if it’s ā€œjust a phaseā€ or something more.

As a Clinical Psychologist with years of experience supporting children with autism, ADHD, behavioral and learning difficulties, I’ve created a special one-on-one virtual session to help you find clarity and a way forward.

For ₦15,000 (normally ₦75,000) you would be getting:
āœ… A professional review of your child’s development
āœ… Clarity on delayed speech or other concerns
āœ… A customized action plan you can use at home especially during the holidays (even if you’re not ready for weekly therapy)
āœ… A one-week follow-up check-in
āœ… Reassurance. Direction. Hope.

Perfect for parents who suspect something’s going on, but don’t know where to start.

Send a message now to grab this limited ₦15,000 offer. Few slots only.

Trauma is like this gorilla, big, heavy, and hard to ignore.

For many, it hides in the bushes of the mind, showing up unexpectedly.

But here’s the thing: just like I’m looking at this gorilla in broad daylight, therapy helps us bring our unhealed pain into the light.
Not to shame it,
But to see it,
To understand it,
And gradually take care of it.

Healing doesn’t always start with fighting.
Sometimes, it starts by looking, gently, honestly.

Let’s talk.

Something I’ve been wondering about lately…..

I attended the GTCO Autism Conference recently, and it reminded me how much we’re still discovering about child development, especially when it comes to speech delays and autism.

Over the past couple of months, I’ve assessed several children whose parents reached out for support. Most of them had speech delays, and in many of those cases, I noticed one thing in common — they were born via C-section or CS as many of us refer to it.

I’m not drawing conclusions yet, but it made me pause and ask:
- Could there be a link?
- Could differences in the birth process play a role in the development of these impairments?

I’ve started looking into the research and I’m still learning. But I wanted to share it out loud, because this might be something other parents or professionals have noticed too.

If you’ve seen anything similar, or you have a thought to share, I’d love to hear from you.

Sometimes it’s not about having all the answers — it’s about paying attention to the patterns.

Hi SEN Therapists/Teachers

We all use reinforcement, but did you know the schedule you choose can shape how well a child learns, masters, and maintains a skill?

Use Continuous Reinforcement (CRF) when teaching a new skill — every correct response is rewarded. This works well for fast learning, especially in Discrete Trial Training (DTT).

But once learning begins, it’s time to shift. Real life doesn’t always reward every response, and neither should we.

That’s where Intermittent Schedules come in, like the Variable Ratio (VR) schedule, which gives reinforcement after an unpredictable number of responses (e.g., VR3 = on average, every 3 responses). VR schedules:

1. Build stronger, more persistent responses

2. Help fade prompts and tangible rewards

3. Mimic natural reinforcement

As you write or review IEPs, think beyond what you reinforce — consider how often. It makes a difference.

Check out Fixed Ratio (FR) and Fixed Interval (FI) schedules too!

🌱 The Energy You Bring Matters
When I was younger, there were some teachers I just didn’t like, not because they were ā€œbad,ā€ but because from the moment we met, the energy felt harsh, critical, or cold. It shaped how I showed up around them. I closed up.

Now that I work with children, especially those with special needs, I understand something powerful:
Children don’t just respond to what we say. They respond to how we make them feel. I can understand the need for some of us to set the tone with some kids from the get go, however there's a plethora of research that proofs that humans will always gravitate to things that give them a good feeling.

One simple but transformative strategy I use is this:
I give attention, kindness, and connection even when the child isn’t doing anything ā€œgood.ā€
I show up with smiles, gentle tone, and warm presence, even when I’m not correcting or teaching.

This is called *non-contingent reinforcement,* but you don’t need the big word to understand it.
Just remember:

> ā€œLet the child associate your presence with safety, not pressure. With connection, not correction.ā€

When they feel safe with you, they’ll do more with you.
That’s when learning can really begin.
