Birth and how you plan or choose to birth can be deeply personal.

This week there has been a lot of talk about home births in Australia and how insurance for home birth Midwife’s may change.

It got me thinking about when I launched the c-section course for Birth Beat. I had mostly lovely comments but a few about why was I wanting to promote c-section over vaginal births.

One thing I remind Mumma’s-to-be is that there is no such thing as a ‘normal’ or ‘right’ birth.

That kind of language sets women up to feel like their c-section birth wasn’t natural or normal. Or worse, that they failed at birth because they weren’t able to deliver their baby a certain way.

Let’s get one thing really clear. Regardless of how you birth, it can be a wonderful, challenging, overwhelming, incredible, scary and exciting experience regardless of which way it happened. There is no easy way out. No cheating. No right or wrong way to give birth. Childbirth is a completely individual and unique experience for every woman.

Have you had a c-section? Home birth? Doula present? I’d love to hear your experience. Was it a positive experience?

I just love this post from 🐶 We can always count on our furry bestfriends to stick by our side.

Plus they are smarter than we think, they pick up on all of our changes from scent to behaviour... they know somethings up!

Did your fur babies behaviour change when they realised you were pregnant?

Oxytocin is known as “the hormone of love”.

It is a naturally occurring hormone that is released when we feel loved, trust, safe and comfortable. It is also produced during s*x and or**sm.

You know that warm fuzzy feeling you get when you cuddle with your partner? That’s oxytocin at work!

Oxytocin plays an important role in labour, birth and breastfeeding. Here’s what it does:

💙 Signals the uterus to contract beginning labour and to push out your baby! It also helps you have a faster labour.

💙 Helps you to feel relaxed and calm, plus reduces pain helping you have a more comfortable labour.

💙 Promotes and strengthens bonding with bub. This is why it’s so important for both parents to have skin-to-skin time with baby!

💙 Increases your milk supply.

That’s why you want lot’s of it!

Oxytocin is a ‘shy’ hormone, meaning it can go away quickly. But, there are many things you can do to help increase your oxytocin. I always tell my Mummas in my online birth course to remember it’s all about feeling loved and relaxed.

Like this post and hit follow as I’ll be sharing tips for increasing your oxytocin in labour! 🤰
