Soooo... I did a thing!!!
Last night, and hosted a workshop. Kalinda is the name of our local form of stickfighting. It was pivotal in the Kambule/Canboulay riots that won us the right to celebrate ourselves. It is our national martial art... and it is *awesome*!!!
The energy was so intense that I had to take off my shoes, and despite all the activity, I felt like if I left with more energy than I came with. I learned. I played a game (and won ππ€£... I laugh because most of us were novices, so it was just 2 of us trying to grasp the concepts). Oh... and King Rato gave me a Bois!!!!!!!!!!
I did it because I'm a member of , and we *are* the bridge between older cultural expressions and newer vibes.
I did it because I'm a member of , so learning about Afrikan rituals, martial arts, spirituality is a part of me.
But, most of all, I did it because I just wanted to.... I am a proud πΉπΉ, and I want to learn about our culture and history... it is in my blood!
