A medical abortion involves taking two medicines.

The first medicine - Mifepristone.

This pill ends the pregnancy. It works by blocking the hormone progesterone. Without progesterone, the womb lining breaks down and the pregnancy cannot continue to develop.

The second medicine – Misoprostol.
