We are sharing some exciting news about our Juice Plus+ rebrand initiative. Juice Plus+ Capsules have a new name and new look. Allow us to introduce Juice Plus+ Essentials. Why Essentials? Because we believe the added nutrition they provide is essential to your daily routine.

It’s more than a new name and look. We added acerola cherry to our Vegetable and Berry Blend Capsules as the sole source of Vitamin C and increased the amount in our Fruit Blend. Why the change? Acerola cherry is one of the best natural sources of high-quality Vitamin C, and we are always looking for ways to deliver the best in plant-based nutrition.

Let’s chat 💚💚💚💚💚

In a study of heart disease, people who consumed diet drinks every day had a greater risk of diabetes and metabolic syndrome. Artificial sweeteners have proven to be carcinogenic in animal studies. They wreak havoc on your gut microbes, destroying beneficial bacteria and causing glucose intolerance. ⁣⁣
⁣⁣
Something that tastes sweet but contains zero calories may sound like the perfect cure for sugar addiction. But it’s not, and here’s why. Normally, when you eat or drink something sweet, it’s accompanied by lots of calories. But not when you consume artificial sweeteners. This confuses your brain. It senses that the taste of sugar without the accompanying calories from glucose and fructose is wrong, and it tries to correct the imbalance by making you hungrier. ⁣⁣
⁣⁣
Not only that, but it also confuses and slows your metabolism down, so you burn less calories every day.⁣⁣
⁣⁣
Bottom line: There is no free ride. Diet drinks are not good substitutes for sugar-sweetened drinks. They still (or even more) increase cravings, weight gain, and type 2 diabetes. And they are addictive.⁣⁣

Here’s the bad news/good news.⁣⁣

Eating sugar and refined carbs can cause pre-dementia and dementia. But cutting out the sugar and refined carbs and adding lots of fat can prevent, and even reverse, pre-dementia and early dementia. Sugar causes pre-diabetes and diabetes, which often leads to significant memory loss.

Chronic stress takes a toll on your body and brain. Stress shrinks the hippocampus, the memory center of the brain. So, find your pause button every day and make time for some stress relief. Relaxation isn’t a luxury if you want to prevent or reverse dementia. Whether that involves deep breathing, meditation, or yoga, find something that helps you calm down.

Lack of sleep can cause impaired brain function, leading to CRAFT syndrome, which stands for “can’t remember a _____ thing.” Studies show poor sleep becomes a risk factor for cognitive decline and Alzheimer’s disease. Aim for at least 8 hours of quality sleep every night.

We now know that physical activity can prevent and even slow down the progression of cognitive decline and brain diseases like dementia. Even a 30-minute walk can help. More active readers might want to incorporate high-intensity interval training or weight lifting.

Store shelves are becoming bare! Even when they are stocked, few of us eat all the fruits and veggies we need daily!! And if you do, are the grown in ideal situations? Are the processed or cooked where they lose over 1/2 of their nutrition? I have chosen the last 3 years to supplement my diet with Juice Plus! It's easy, convenient, and gives me the piece of mind that I'm getting all my nutrition.

I’m always amazed how many doctors don’t know how to effectively diagnose and treat insulin resistance. I’ve even had doctors as patients who are simply waiting for their condition to be worse so they can go on medication.

Optimizing our metabolic health is the lowest-hanging fruit to achieve all our other health goals. Many people don’t even realize it’s essential for weight loss. Tracking how different foods impact our blood sugar and insulin responses gives us the power to create metabolic flexibility and understand our individual reactions to foods.

Casey Means, MD - Functional Medicine joined me on a past episode of The Doctor's Farmacy where we talked about the benefits of tools like a continuous glucose monitor, and also why it’s a helpful resource for fine-tuning your diet but not something that requires lifelong use. Dr. Means also shared some of the surprising data she’s seen coming in from the beta-test of the Levels monitor. Many foods labeled as “healthy” are top culprits in spiking blood sugar, like grapes, rice, and oats.
