I have some really exciting news for pelvic health physical therapists- (or physiotherapists, depending on where you live.) Most of you will agree that the focus of your training emphasizes anatomy, physiology, rehabilitation, and manual skills. Yet, your patients rarely present to you with physical symptoms alone. They want, and need, your wise guidance and counseling. Yet many PT's feel insufficiently trained to address the emotional aspects that are presented to them.
This is why I am so excited to announce this upcoming course, in collaboration with the American Physical Therapy Association. This course equips pelvic health physical therapists with essential knowledge and counseling strategies to address emotional and s*xual concerns using a psychologically informed, trauma-sensitive approach. Emphasis is placed on understanding emotional intimacy, s*xual desire, and relational dynamics across the lifespan, while integrating sensitivity to trauma, cultural backgrounds, and religious beliefs.
