I start my 32nd lap around the sun today.

With today being the 9th, here’s nine lessons I’ve learned so far.

I hope one of these is helpful. ✨

- Whether you win or lose, you still matter.

- Self awareness grows during challenges. Dont be afraid to be uncomfortable.

- Rather than worrying about if someone likes you or not, focus on whether you like them or not.

- Your insecurities may not be your fault, but they are your responsibility. The better you know yourself, the more secure you will feel.

- After each accomplishment, internally recognize the win before raising the bar. It’s okay to be proud. Moving on to the next thing immediately, time after time, results in feeling like it’s never “enough.”

- You will have a season where you feel lost. Lean into it, it means you’re growing.

- Forgive mistakes, but don’t forget when something is done with malicious intent.

- Never let someone tell you they don’t want you twice.

- Outcome ALWAYS matches effort. If effort is high for a prolonged period of time and you’re still not seeing the payout, keep going or tweak the method. Some things take more time than others.

2024

More stepping back and stepping into new things that… I actually like?

A blue birthday cake.

Lots of days in the creek.

Lots of meals with friends.

Weekend trips.

Engaged.

Torn hands and a lot of falling.

A “come here let’s take a picture. I want to remember this moment, I’m just so happy.”

Weighing watermelons with my mother in law.

Some really awesome new girl friendships I never imagined I’d have in my 30s.

1 terrible crohns flare and a failed prep (oh well lol)

0 hospital stays

Debilitating laughter with Luke.

Wife era.

The last 6-8 weeks have been rough. If you’re new here, I was diagnosed with ulcerative colitis about 6.5 years ago. I’ve had two flares that landed me in the hospital for a week each time. After the second hospitalization (2022) they diagnosed me with Crohn’s and UC.

Without going through all of the medications I’ve tried and flare details, I managed my Crohn’s on my own the last 2.5 years.

My biggest trigger? Stress. And sometimes (usually) it’s stress I don’t even realize is occurring.

It’s frustrating having a chronic illness. Every few years you feel like you’re starting over. You can’t leave the house. You struggle to eat or keep meals down. You lose (a lot) of blood which affects energy, your heart rate, ability to think, struggle to take care of yourself and your family, and the gym? Don’t even think about it. I’ve left the house about 5-7 times since mid September.

I ended my prep about 6 weeks ago. That hit me a lot harder than I expected. I was really proud and excited for what I was bringing this time around. But life happens and sometimes your body just gets pi**ed off.

A huge win this time was staying out of the hospital and not needing blood transfusions.

So hey, thank you to everyone who has checked in on me, let me cry, made meals or sent some, sent wedding gifts, been patient with me, and encouraged me to take care of myself.

First workout back was very mild, but it feels good to be heading back into a habit I’ve held for 13 years.

That’s it. That’s the post.

HBD to the Big Dog. The funniest, strangest, hardest working person I know. Just know even when I don’t laugh at your jokes, I’m laughing inside.

You’re my favorite person to celebrate and I know this next lap around the Sun is off to a rocky start, but I’m right here with you.

I love you.

‘Hey meta, describe this.’

“You’re standing confidently in the gym mirror. Your pastel blue shirt adds a touch of softness to your overall strong pose. Your arms are flexed, showcasing your muscles, and your face reflects a sense of determination and pride.”
