AC3 Addressing The Cancer Burden In All Populations of African Ancestry

The African-Caribbean Cancer Consortium was formed in May 2006 to further the study of viral, genetic, environmental and lifestyle risk factors for cancer in populations of African descent. Camille Ragin PhD, MPH is responsible for the establishment and development of the consortium. A growing number of dedicated researchers based in the United States, Africa and the Caribbean have joined.

Join us this Wednesday at 7pm EST as we feature Jamaica Reach to Recovery Support Group. Dr. Althea Bailey, a senior lecturer at UWI Kingston Jamaica and an AC3 working group member will be facilitating the discussion on 'Living with Cancer - In a Low Resource Caribbean Setting.'
CCP and AC3 continues to educate the community on cancer prevention and promote research in our black population. This month we are diving into how to navigate your way once you are faced with cancer.
The African Caribbean Cancer Consortium (AC3) was established in May 2006 by Dr. Camille Ragin, the Principal Investigator and Professor of Cancer Prevention and Control Program at Fox Chase Cancer Center. AC3 has member scientific investigators from the US, Caribbean and Africa who study viral, genetic, environmental and lifestyle risk factors for cancer in populations of African descent.
Miranda Alexander, Founding President of Caribbean Community in Philadelphia (CCP) host these series of monthly presentations & discussions under CCP health initiative.
This project is a community partnership between AC3 and CCP with funding from the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative (CZI).

Dr. Mercadel is a Gynecologic Oncology fellow and voluntary assistant professor in the Department of Obstetrics, Gynecology, and Reproductive Sciences at the University of Miami.
The presentation will cover the various GYN Cancers and women's health with the African Caribbean Cancer Consortium (AC3) members.

Guest Presenter - Dr. Paulo Pinheiro is a consultant for Race-Ethnicity Methodology, a research professor on cancer epidemiology with twenty years of experience at Miller School of Medicine in Miami. He has pioneered the monitoring of cancer incidence in Hispanic sub-groups.
Co-presenter - Dr. Patricia Jones is an Assistant Professor of Medicine in the Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology at the University of Miami Leonard M. Miller School of Medicine.

Dr. Jones is currently building a research program which seeks to identify and alleviate the factors contributing to racial disparities in chronic liver disease and hepatocellular carcinoma. She will review any clinical evidence and address the Q & A segment of the AC3 and CCP collaborative partnership program.
