It looks like cheaper compounded versions of GLP-1 drugs will be halted by May of this year. This coincides with the two major drug companies having begun offering their own direct-to-consumer sales at between $400 and $600 per month. You still need a prescription, and you can't use insurance to pay for these D2C options, however.

These can be very helpful, though we have concerns that include muscle loss, which affects metabolism, bone density loss, which can put people at risk for fractures later in life, as well as other clinical side-effects. When relying on any sort of pharmaceutical for help with weight loss, it's important to also learn how to eat healthfully, to learn how to maintain your loss and not regain the weight or yo-yo (which is quite unhealthy), and to ensure you're getting adequate protein to prevent muscle wasting, maintain your metabolism, and to get your micronutrients from healthy foods, not j***y foods. Keeping a healthy weight is a marathon, not a sprint, and requires knowledge, not band-aids.

Compounding pharmacies are not regulated for safety in the same ways that prescription manufacturers are, and there are deaths attributed to compounded GLP1s. Be certain of your sources, and if the price is too good, be extra cautious.
