GOD, THIS IS BEAUTIFUL! TAKE THE TIME TO READ IT ❤️
As someone who writes often, I naturally appreciate epic writing when I see it. About two years ago, I came across this written piece of art by John Roedel and it moved me deeply, so I had to share it with all of you! Not only are these words true theatre, they also act as sound advice ❤️

my brain and
heart divorced

a decade ago

over who was
to blame about
how big of a mess
I have become

eventually,
they couldn't be
in the same room
with each other

now my head and heart
share custody of me

I stay with my brain
during the week

and my heart
gets me on weekends

they never speak to one another

- instead, they give me
the same note to pass
to each other every week

and their notes they
send to one another always
says the same thing:

"This is all your fault"

on Sundays
my heart complains
about how my
head has let me down
in the past

and on Wednesday
my head lists all
of the times my
heart has screwed
things up for me
in the future

they blame each
other for the
state of my life

there's been a lot
of yelling - and crying

so,

lately, I've been
spending a lot of
time with my gut

who serves as my
unofficial therapist

most nights, I sneak out of the
window in my ribcage

and slide down my spine
and collapse on my
gut's plush leather chair
that's always open for me

~ and I just sit sit sit sit
until the sun comes up

last evening,
my gut asked me
if I was having a hard
time being caught
between my heart
and my head

I nodded

I said I didn't know
if I could live with
either of them anymore

"my heart is always sad about
something that happened yesterday
while my head is always worried
about something that may happen tomorrow,"
I lamented

my gut squeezed my hand

"I just can't live with
my mistakes of the past
or my anxiety about the future,"
I sighed

my gut smiled and said:

"in that case,
you should
go stay with your
lungs for a while,"

I was confused
- the look on my face gave it away

"if you are exhausted about
your heart's obsession with
the fixed past and your mind's focus
on the uncertain future

your lungs are the perfect place for you

there is no yesterday in your lungs
there is no tomorrow there either

there is only now
there is only inhale
there is only exhale
there is only this moment

there is only breath

and in that breath
you can rest while your
heart and head work
their relationship out."

this morning,
while my brain
was busy reading
tea leaves

and while my
heart was staring
at old photographs

I packed a little
bag and walked
to the door of
my lungs

before I could even knock
she opened the door
with a smile and as
a gust of air embraced me
she said

"what took you so long?"

You work 8 hours to live 4.
You work 6 days to enjoy 1.
You work 8 hours to eat in 15 minutes.
You work 8 hours to sleep 5.
You work all year just to take a week or two vacation.
You work all your life to retire in old age,
And contemplate only your last breaths.
Eventually you realize that life is nothing but a parody of yourself practicing for your own oblivion.
We have become so accustomed to material and social slavery that we no longer see the chains.
Life is a short journey, live it! Collect memories, not material things!

"Do you love Me?" Alice asked.
"No, I don't love you!" replied the White Rabbit.
Alice frowned and clasped her hands together as she did whenever she felt hurt.
"See?" replied the White Rabbit. "Now you're going to start asking yourself what makes you so imperfect and what did you do wrong so that I can't love you at least a little.
You know, that's why I can't love you. You will not always be loved Alice, there will be days when others will be tired and bored with life, will have their heads in the clouds, and will hurt you.
Because people are like that, they somehow always end up hurting each other's feelings, whether through carelessness, misunderstanding, or conflicts with themselves.
If you don't love yourself, at least a little, if you don't create an armor of self-love and happiness around your heart, the feeble annoyances caused by others will become lethal and will destroy you.
The first time I saw you I made a pact with myself: 'I will avoid loving you until you learn to love yourself.' "

What a great reminder!

If you find yourself talking about other people’s motivations, short-comings and mistakes, you are not revealing anything about them, you are telegraphing your own filters, struggles and biases.

It is an adolescent mindset. It’s not inspiring. It’s tired. There is little utility in it for anyone. If you are wanting to elevate, and nothing says you have to, evaluate the human level you spend most of your time in.

There are three types of people inside each of us.

✅ Base level. Motivated by fear. Me against the world mentality. This is your reactionary lizard-brain self. It avoids, it lies, it bu*****ts. It seeks control and stability. To your base level anything that is different is a threat. It’s the one that goes off on social media rants and attacks the imaginary “they.” It’s scared and insecure.

✅ Culture Level. Motivated by status. Look at me mentality. It’s also tribe think. “Our way is better than your way.” Or “wake the f**k up sheeple.” Where base level seeks control, this one seeks being right. Winning is more important than learning. This is the adolescent mentality. It is summed up like this: “I am smart, you are dumb. I matter, you don’t. My team has the answers, your team is clueless.” It’s the home of ignorance and arrogance.

✅ Next Level. Motivated by growth. Operates by the 3 imperatives: to learn, to teach, to love (share). Where base level is self-serving and culture level is self-indulgent, next Level is self-aware. It realizes you are no better than anyone else, but you are magically unique. You have signature strengths and the means to make the world a better place. Your next level self pushes you to create meaning and make a difference. Whether it’s raising your kids, writing your books or, most importantly, loving the person right in front of you.

Next time you find yourself ranting, blaming and complaining about “they” or “these people” or “them,” consider which level human you are being.

The Law Of Psychic Entropy. Entropy is a scientific term for loss of energy. Willpower is like a battery. It can be drained and charged.

This is completely ignored in the diet & health industry. If you understand this metabolic law, you'll immediately understand the folly of trying to change ten things about your life at one time. Going from a Doritos-eating couch potato to a CrossFitting paleo man can short-circuit your willpower battery faster than you can say "kettlebell swing."
Willpower is more like "skillpower." It isn't something you have or don't have, it's something you develop through mindful practice. Think of it as a conscious approach to charging your battery.

It has been shown that stress depletes the willpower battery, turning on pleasure seeking brain centers while reducing motivation centers. TV and computer time may seem relaxing and regenerative, & they can be for a bit, but within a short time can be draining. Anyone who has watched a Harry Potter marathon over a weekend can tell you they feel anything but relaxed & recharged.

How to charge up the willpower battery? Avoid the things on the left & practice the things on the right. Creative pursuits, practicing gratitude (yes, really), s*x 😳, relaxing activities💆🏻‍♀️, and meditation🧘‍♂️ all can have an effect. Some activities can have both effects, depending on duration & type. Short controlled stress (some exercise) is useful to train resilience. TV focused on learning & laughter may indeed restore.

You want the conscious & intentional pursuit of activities that rest, relax, recharge & recover the psychic energy that gets used in the fast-paced modern lifestyle. Another way to consider this concept is "rest-based living." These activities must become the center-point & priority of anyone wishing to keep the metabolism functioning at a high level, especially as they age.
