Julie Lundy Coaching As a motherhood and parenting coach I help moms discover and trust their intuition.

The Maternity Planner supports new and expectant mothers during all stages of maternity - the biggest transition in their adult lives. Through coaching, providing resources, and serving as a doula to women, I hope that together we could all be stronger and more confident women, better mothers and the best versions of ourselves.

Is this anyone else’s kid this morning 🤦🏻‍♀️ ?! Saturday and Sunday he’s up with the 🐦 and the ☀️ at 6:00am and today at 8:00am it’s all “I’m still tired mommy!” As he lay under the covers.

Here’s 5 ways you can celebrate today:

1. Grab coffee with another working parent in your office or another work from home mom in your neighborhood and share the good, bad, and ugly. Share resources and remind yourself you are not alone in this journey.

2. Write down a of 5 reasons you’re proud to be a working parent. Share them or put them on a post-it on your computer to remind you on the hard days

3. If you WFH or work for yourself, do something that you told yourself you’d do if you didn’t have to go to an office, like go for a walk, get a manicure, or head to the gym during lunch. Put on your OOO message and don’t check email for an hour. Everything will be okay when you get back.

4. Read the Harvard study linked below, 'Kids of Working Moms Grow into Happy Adults'

5. If you’re an employer or manager, thank your working parent employees!

Join us for this awesome event this Saturday. Sensual self-care for mamas. Reconnect with yourself and help other moms in the process! All proceeds go toward Mor For Moms medical postpartum self-care kits.

Women rarely consider how becoming a mother will redefine their sexuality. Many factors may cause pregnant women and new mothers to feel disconnected from themselves, including shifting hormones, lack of sleep, anxiety, disempowering birth experiences, breastfeeding or feeling unfamiliar with their....

My friend Maya wrote this awesome piece for The Lily.

Breastfeeding mothers often end up carrying the brunt of the parenting burden, and what’s worse, once patterns are established, it’s really hard to change them! I know in my house, every time my son would fuss, someone would say “he’s hungry” and we all knew that meant I was going to handle it. And 3.5 years later, I am the de facto provider of food, no matter how many other caring adults are in the room.

Maya’s piece outlines some concrete strategies for creating more equitable division of labor, when mom is breastfeeding. Oh, and I’m quoted with one of the ideas and strategies for creating a pumping schedule that helps your partner get some early feeds in.
Check link in bio to read the article and comment below what you did to create a more equitable workload in your home.

The biological reality of breastfeeding places a huge physical and mental strain on women

The Washington Post asked 10 women to describe motherhood in 100 words. This one got me. To read them all head here: https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/style/wp/2019/05/09/feature/the-protector-the-multitasker-the-holder-of-rocks-10-moms-define-motherhood/?utm_term=.da153b742c61&wpisrc=nl_parent&wpmm=1

For the one weekend I’m gone all year, their dad pulled out all the stops. One hike led them along a boardwalk to a cave. Another up a mountain to a hazy view of the city. No time for the movies because of the biking and scootering adventure, then dinner out, then off to the greasy spoon for classic sundaes. They’d had even better a weekend than we’d hoped, but in school on Monday morning my kindergartener drew his Weekend News as nothing but a blurry, boxy composite of himself and me above the words: “Mommy came home.”

How do you sum up something so extraordinary in 100 words or fewer?

✏️
Baby on the brain at work. Work on the brain with baby. Now matter how you design your work life, there will be days where you’re pulled in both directions. Where it doesn’t feel like you can give it your all in either arena. All moms feel this. And I think even if our systems evolved, we had ample maternity leave, flex hours if we wanted them, and understanding and supportive managers, we would still feel this pull.

I’m excited to learn from our panelists about what they’ve done to manage their working mom guilt, how they make micro-adjustments here and there to make their work life work better for them, and what they are still striving to do better at.

So excited for tomorrow!

There’s no one living the mission to help parents Design The Work-Life That Works For Their Life more than Kelsey Lents at Two Birds. Kelsey and her cofounder have created the first ever fully licensed childcare facility with on-site co-working for parents. I think this is going to be HUGE for DCs working families and I hope to see companies supporting their employees working in spaces like this.

Kelsey is a panelist at our upcoming event, and Two Birds is our host and a co-sponsor for the event. Read more from Kelsey on the blog https://www.thematernityplanner.com/post/2019/04/29/panelist-preview-with-kelsey-lents and come tour Two Birds before or after the event in May 7th.

Elizabeth is a working mom who spends her days researching and advocating for women in the workplace with FTI Consulting.

There’s so much to learn from her in this Panelist Preview but what I we need to call out is that she get her fabulous hair from hot rollers and dry shampoo.

What did Elizabeth have to say have designing that work-life that works for her life? She’s said it’s a constant and consistent on-going process!

Read more from Elizabeth on our blog and buy your tickets to the upcoming event on 5/7 to learn more from Elizabeth!
