Alpha-1 Global A Global network of Alpha-1 Antitrypsin Deficiency organisations & patients, to Increase awareness, detection & access to care for Alphas around the world.

Alpha-1 Antitrypsin Deficiency (Alpha-1) is a rare genetic condition which may result in serious lung disease in adults and/or liver disease in children and adults. As Alpha-1 communities join forces globally, our advocacy efforts to obtain better access to care will be served worldwide. To accomplish these goals we will align closely with governments, industry, and health and research organisations in various countries. Alpha-1 Global seeks to:

Build cohesive communication between the various Alpha-1 associations and organisations. Supply up-to-date information about research and the latest Alpha-1 developments around the world. Provide access to valuable resources and educational materials in a variety of languages. Conduct educational Alpha-1 seminars online. Encourage you to actively participate in the online discussion platform, by contributing your knowledge, questions, experiences and ideas.

Today is European Alpha-1 Awareness Day! The European Commission and national governments have done much to improve conditions for rare disease patients. We can do more!

Awareness of Alpha-1 Antitrypsin Deficiency remains low, causing many issues such as under diagnosis or often misdiagnosis. You can find more information on the condition through this infographic: http://ow.ly/bHMg50IR7VJ.

The European Reference Networks (ERNs) can work to overcome this by sharing knowledge cross-border and improving diagnosis and treatment. Improved access to treatment and a more holistic approach can also improve patient outcomes.
