Mission
ASHIM’s mission is to certify a skilled Health IT workforce in order to best serve the needs of physicians who are using and adopting health IT. The Certified Health Informatics Systems Professional (CHISP) provides the hiring public with a means to differentiate the skills of IT professionals by validating their current healthcare industry knowledge, provides a means for job applicants to inform prospective employers of their qualifications with respect to the healthcare industry, and serves to validate the superior knowledge and skill of IT professionals already serving the healthcare community. ASHIM is a voluntary, non-governmental, member organization that conducts nationally recognized HIT certification for computer science and information technology professionals to demonstrate skills necessary to efficiently integrate computer technology in the health care field. The Certified Health Informatics Systems Professional (CHISP) credential was developed in response to a national need for a skilled Health IT workforce able to support the adoption of Health IT that improves quality of care and efficiency, while maintaining patient privacy and security. CHISP is the credential that certifies the Health IT knowledge of the Health IT workforce.
